Hi there. Hope you are doing good  :)

I’m aware that the 2016 MacBooks are an epic failure at least with the battery life. So bought the 2015 MacBook Pro 15inch instead. Just heard that 2017 Macs will be out soon with new gen. Processor .

I got the 2015 15inch (512 SSD) with Intel Iris Pro Graphics for $2178.

Should I just return it now and wait for the 2017 one?

By that time the 2015 model will be out of production and available officially  and only the not so good 2016 will be available along with the 2017 ones which I assume will be damn costly considering the price of 2016 models now.

Is it worth waiting for it expecting it to be good in all departments like the 2015 model incase I can max out my wallet to afford it?

I'm not expecting to see a refresh on the MacBook Pro until the fall at the earliest.

If that. Early 2018, more likely. The advances on intel's roadmap are hardly worthy of an update before then.

Fwiw, my 2016 15" 'Book's battery life certainly doesn't feel like a "failure", let alone an "epic" one.

    I'm quite happy.

The 2016's have very good battery life.

The 2015's that the haters were all recommending has the old Haswell CPU in it.  I would have paid the extra $400 and bought the 2016 version, especially for the TB 3 ports.

The TB 3 ports open up a wide variety of options that the 2015 will require a dongle for and not work as well.

If you don't need a laptop now I'd return it but it will be a long wait for the 2017 MBPs.  TB3/USB-C is a huge change that is a requirement for any laptop you're spending over $2000 on.   If you do need a laptop, I'd still return it and get a 2016.

What do you get? Please mention the brightness also.

Well, the new displays at maximum are AAAAAAAGHBRIGHT.

so i have it at maybe 70-80% most of the time, and could do with less.

I can get through about eight hours of teaching - didn't time it explicitly, since I pulled out my power supply after about six or seven hours. Logic open for notation, web browser for student database and YouTube, playback of music, not constant use - the display will shut off frequently as I'm working with students, but the machine won't sleep. I run Virtual DJ most of the time for playback/looping exercise, which for some reason requires the discrete graphics. I've replaced Franz with the newly-released official WhatsApp client, since Franz also used the discrete graphics.

I have yet to really push it on battery power (running a full Logic project or Final Cut), but I'm not terribly likely to ever need to in real life.

Battery life still isn't good enough not to matter, but it certainly doesn't seem bad. Certainly in line with my expectations.
