I was using f.lux before there was a Night Shift and like it very much. It's on all my Macs and MacBook. Implemented Night Shift as soon as it was available.
Two things I really like about f.lux: It's change night mode is fairly slow and subtle. I really like that. And it has two modes for night time viewing of video, a one and a two hour 'time-out' setting that reverts to Night mode automatically after the time constraint.
Night Shift doesn't allow for that, and for some reason it keeps disengaging on my phone. It also changes very abruptly. But I still like and use it every day (night, actually).
I don't use any of the other settings of f.lux, so Night Shift on the Mac will be welcome. I only wish that Apple would slow down the transition somewhat. It's almost like the old cartoons: "Night fell..." Boom.
