A cheap and easy solution for extending the life of your frequently used and abused cables is to secure the end(s) with shrink tubing. Unlike other cable ends, Lightning is just small enough work with a 1/4"diameter tubing that will shrink down over the wires thickness.
Doing this to your MagSafe connector is a little trickier. You either need to use a single loop so you can slide over the wire only, or you need to get clever with a utility knife to cut a tube down its length, cut it to create an arrow on one end, wrap to measure, then cut an slit to feed the arrow, shrink, and then repeat until you can slip a 1/2" piece over the MagSafe and shrink to tighten on your cable. I did the former because it takes only 60 seconds. I love MagSafe, but I can't wait until I move to USB-C.
One of the first things I do with a new lightning cable is put shrink tube on the lightning side. I haven't thought to put it on the USB side, as I've never had a problem there.

I never have a problem with the USB-A side, either, so I also never put it there.
Plus, if you have a color assortment you can use different colors to help keep track of which cables go where if you live with unorganized animals. Also, a little superglue on the USB-A cable in the PSU can help keep them from going missing for your home stations.
I guess Macarena's post predictably shows that "haters gotta hate".
Would it be equally true to say "lovers Gotta love"?
The real point though, is how do you know which is which or neither of the two?
By simply using rational thought?
So rational thought is enough, although you are only using a sample of someone's posts on a forum? Nothing else?
Is there anything rational about reaching a conclusion in that way?
Was there anything rational in the "hater gotta hate" line?
I think the sentiment behind "haters gonna hate" is pretty clear -- those who are fans of Apple goods do so because of the tangible value received by the tools. those who consistently, routinely hate on Apple tools do so because they have an agenda, an axe to grind. it's a form irrational compulsive behavior.

Yes. The sentiment is clear but amounts to just stating the obvious. Like "lovers gotta love".
As for fans and tangible value. Great, but there are ''worshippers' that are equally as bad as the 'haters' who do not limit themselves to being a fan but consider themselves some kind of 'defenders of the faith' who do not admit criticism of any kind and feel the irrational need to come out with all.guns blazing at the drop of a hat. Neither group is truly capable of rational thought.
The irony is that I see few, if any ''haters" here.
Almost everyone has Apple products and/or follow Apple's move's to some degree and therefore have something tangible to base their comments on, although whether they actually do or not is another matter.
IMO, Apple fair value is $150-$160. But don't count on Wall Street allowing the stock price to reach it or stay there for any significant amount of time. And later they will drop the price even more. Probably hit $110-$115 in the next 2 years.
How did you arrive at your fair value estimate? Wishful thinking? The stock is only valued at the price people are willing to pay for it regardless if some people are influenced by professional manipulation efforts. People are purchasing a piece of paper for $130 HOPING that someone else will buy it for more. Private traders are always going to be at a disadvantage to automatic trading that makes millions of trades per second. In my opinion, for private individuals, investing is a much better strategy compared to day trading. Pick a good company, hold the stock, collect the dividends and give it to your kids when you die.

Oh i definitely see haters here -- those who will consistently strive to bag on apple for absurd, nonsense reasons. Usually born of their own ignorance as to how Apple operates and why, or misunderstanding their own niche use cases as mainstream. And then the one-post-wonder trolls who certainly have an irrational compulsion.
"Lovers gotta love" doesn't make any sense. I don't know anyone who has a compulsion to love apple products for no discernible reason -- i only see people who appreciate the value and enjoy disassembling the irrational, weak arguments haters put forth for criticism.
Karma catching up?
For a long time, Apple has been tempting karma - selling overpriced lightning cables to customers whose cables frayed out within months, soldering RAM into the motherboards, so that customers have no choice but to accept Apple's rip off pricing, etc. When a company goes out of its way to screw its own loyal customers, you can be assured that its day of reckoning is coming.
* edited the OP for brevity
When you find an altruistic corporation making products without concern for their own bottom line, let me know, but it's pretty safe to say Apple did not design a shitty cable just to make a few extra bucks. I've had some go bad and others hold up. It depends on how I use it mostly, but I have yet to just get a truly shit cable from Apple. Cable fraying is still an issue with anything used as much as a charging cable and earphones. YMMV
Further, most of the "feature losses" you are referring to come with benefits for the consumer also, longer battery life, faster rocessing, quick start times etc. in engineering and product design, hell basically in life there's a tug and pup or give and take for everything.
Wonder if they are using Apple branded wall chargers or third party.
Good call. I'd suspect the latter. I know two folks with Mac third party chargers that have no ground and the case gives small shocks! Even Amazon's own branded Apple peripherals are pretty cruddy. I found after a few months a pack of iPhone charging lightening connectors either don't work at all or only one way around.
Than again this poor iPhone it could have been next to a Galaxy Note 7 of course!

I doubt the issue was with the USB brick or a 3rd party cable. If you look at the pictures you can see on the back side of the phone near the Apple logo there is a noticeable burn mark. That looks like where the problem started. That is also where the phone can get warm while charging or extreme use. The other sign that the logic board had issues is the explanation of the display having a yellow background when the user was able to get the device to power on again. The third point is the battery did vent along the left side of the device. If it was to completely combust, it would have burned the entire display. The battery casing probably melted and caused the battery to have a thermal runaway along the left side.
i doubt a third party cable and charger can do this. It can start a fire near the dock, but you can see by the melted case that it looks like the heat started from the center of the device.
