This only seems odd because it applies only to the sports band, and not say any of the other bands apple imports for the watch.
It seems correct that Apple would move to harmonise the duty taxes across their bands.
Because it is classified as "other plastic". Would be nice to know what, if any, duties are imposed on leather and metal bands. Perhaps the UK has a plastic industry in need of protection.
As much as I hate to say it but I agree with the tax people here. The Apple watch comes with a strap so it doesn't require other straps for it to work.
Just come visit America and buy your bands (or a new Watch) when you visit.
Are you saying that the Sport bands (and a new Watch) imported by individuals are exempt from import duty?
Only if HMRC doesn't stop you and ask. You could also risk having someone mail it to you and hope customs don't inspect the package but if they do you get whacked with additional charges.
