Apple Music is the only service that actually WORKS. Spotify is a pile of mess and so are all other similar services, including Google Play Music or Deezer. At least those are the ones I have been using for an extended period of time. Ugly user interface that's hard to navigate, misleading search results, incomplete discographies, slow and buggy offline downloading. All of those services claim to have 30-40 million songs, but Apple Music is the only one where I actually always find stuff I'm looking for (especially when we're not talking about Top 40 type of music), the other ones usually have exactly the same poor search results. As a matter of a fact, with Google Play Music you're actually better off simply using YouTube, makes absolutely no sense to pay for their Play Music. On the other hand, I'm more than happy to pay my Apple Music family plan and I simply don't see any competition here.

I think Apple should offer a free, ad-based tier (not just a free limited time trial) I'd like to give it another try.

Not even Google, the ad-based company, does that with their Play Music service. If you're seriously expecting Apple to offer an ad-based service of any kind, then you seriously never understood Apple's philosophy.

"Apple Music sets new album streaming record 68% higher than Spotify, despite fewer users"

I need to go back to school.

    I thought that 68% of 61.3 is 41.7, so 68% more is 103, not 89.9.

Unless of course they mean Spotify only had 68% as many streams as Apple.
    You're right.

    The 68% is what Spotify streamed as a percentage of Apple: 61.3 / 89.9 = 68%.

That is not the same as "68% higher than Spotify."

As you said, the calc of "higher than Spotify" = difference / base:
       (89.9 - 61.3) / 61.3
    = 46.7% higher than Spotify

If there is one thing where the Spotify is miles ahead of apple, is the user interface.  And it not just me who is saying it.  Look to all decent reviews

    89,9/61,3 = 1,47

It's 47% higher, NOT 68% as in the title.

Are you still believing that Apple just WORKS?

Spotify is so much better than Apple Music. Better structured, it's so much easier to find everything. There are user playlists. You can share your own playlist, and it can be easily discovered by others. My playlist has now almost 12.000 subscribers.
I tried Apple Music twice (when it just came out, and after they refreshed it}. They have just 'cleaner' design. But as user experience - they are so much worse.

To each his own, right? So much easier to find everything you say? Especially when tons of albums don't even exist on Spotify to begin with, right? Playlist sharing I don't care about at all honestly, it'll sound selfish, but first and foremost I use this service because of my own music needs, not because I want or need to create playlists for others. Likewise, I don't need others to tell me what I should like or listen to, so this social element of streaming services is probably only good for casual listeners who need some guidance.

Seriously, I don't need to form my judgement based on some user reviews, I have been using both services long enough to make my own judgement. If Spotify works better for you, fine, but please, don't tell me it's better because user reviews say so. That's the lamest argument ever and you know it.

Just came out of a 6 month free subscription through EE (UK) and I couldn't wait to get back to Spotify for one reason, the Spotify iOS app is so much better (for me).
The design and the dynamic equalizer always win!  Also, the fact that I can keep my music library separate to music I do not "own" is so much more convenient.

Have yet to still meet someone who uses Apple Music.
Really? I know several in my circles. I know about as many Apple Music subscribers as I do Spotify subscribers. Obviously, I know several others who are just free tier users of Spotify or Pandora. I know zero Google Music subscribers, zero Tidal users. I know one or two people who use Amazon's music thing because they are already Prime members.

Actually I think it's fair to use Drake Album as an indicator of 'actual user' numbers. I am not fans either, and I am using Apple Music, so it goes both ways (Apple and Spotify) if that is people's main reason to think otherwise. In Australia there are a lot of those $0 incentive to promote Spotify, which count towards number of subs, whether or not the person actually using it. Their number itself (100 millions active users) is highly suspicious, and this new indicator can provide evidence to support against that.
