Looks like the 7s with an OLED screen as the commemorative 10 year anniversary model it is.
Next year, when the iPhone 8 is released it will it will not have a camera bump. And not because of ummm "physics". Which is a lame excuse people found on the ground and started licking it. It will be because the phone at the top where the camera is located will be thicker. It will be thicker at the top then taper down just like that tear drop design rumors were talking about.
    Imagine that!??
Thicker a phone trumps physics! lol

Why not install a mirror in a 45 degree angle behind the camera opening, to deflect the light? Since the camera is on top corner of the phone, you then have the entire length of the phone (5+ inches) to install any "improved camera tech" that you want.
I'm both intrigued and disgusted by this idea. I want to see Samsung do it. It's so great.  :D

if true, someone high up at apple really loves the camera bump
Because physics. I'll take the benefits of improved camera technology over the minor annoyances of camera bumps any day of the week.

Fragility, loss of light (a problem in a small sensor), possible distortion, lack of space, etc. You knew those answers, and Apple even have some patents about such ideas... If it were all that simple, they'd have done it already.. You're also not gaining a lot on the sensor size, though gaining on the focal point range. All that for a small bit of gain!

You might be losing on it, as thin as these phones are. It could be bigger along the largest axis than the smallest one.
