The cutting edge these days is the TonePrint system from TC Electronics. You can edit a huge range of parameters on their pedals (even changing one pedal into another - say, by adding full set of chorus controls to a reverb pedal and then turning off the reverb). Plug in your guitar, hold the phone near the pickup, then press the button on the phone. This transmits the settings to the device. No need for cables. Eventide has a multipurpose pedal with a zillion presets that you can program in, but like Line6, you need a cable to get them to the device.
