Do your PC friends give Macs respect?

A number of my friends who use to mock and ridicule the Mac have changed their tune. While they certainly will not switch today, they no longer refer to it as toy or "Crapintosh".

They think the iBook and new LCD iMac look cool.

I don't think it has to do with the Switch campaign, but I think Apple has gained more respectability among PC users. There is definite greater awareness that Macs are more than just for graphic designers. There's also an increased awareness and appreciation for design.

That plus OSX has also helped.

After 2yrs one PC friend who had a brother get an iBook has turned and liked them, alot because of OS X and he was impressed with design. As for my c++ programming class, haha well they are a little harder to convince, their main thing is that macs have no software (mostly games) and are only useful for design and audio. Haha, never had crapintosh said to me though, but its hard as hell not to clock them once and a while because it just makes you so mad that they speak of superior stuff in this way...its extremely bothering and have no idea how to shut them up.

My friends don't like Macs because they can't play PC games. That and they think XP is a good piece of software.

They all find the hardware cool and futuristic, but they think that the prices are crazy.

Same statement: i can buy 3 faster desktops with better video cards with that money

Apple needs to do something. Apparently, its switching advertisments are not effective.

Ya, they all think XP looks cool. OS X, they never heard about it...

my friend was just here, and he was looking at my iPod and he said: "Man, this is so cool, I want a Mac."

It is true, PC people who could be Mac people, they show their true colours, even if they don't use them... they know that they are not using the right computer....

None of my friends used to give Macs respect- until I brought them into the Apple Store. That changed their minds.

In my old dorm, all of my suitemates would occasionally mention how they wished they could get Macs but that they were too expensive. They all loved my dual 500 and what I did with it even though I couldn't play all their games. The big games for us were Starcraft and Quake III; so, I was covered.

What they said is true, though. Even with the educational discounts, Macs are awfully expensive.

That's interesting. Do you think there are many more PC users who are closet Mac lovers? I'm guessing there are but many simply cave to peer pressure and don't want to be cast as "different". Something all us mac users strive to be.

A lot of people who say "Macs suck" have almost never seen, used, or tryed one

Everyone likes the style of the mac but the big brake light that lights up in everyone's head is the price and speed difference. But as far as calling it crapintosh....well I am bigger than most people and they know better

My experience has been that there has been a change for the better. When Macs were blue and green and orange, they were a big joke. Even now, they think the iMac looks stupid.

But they think OS X is great.

none of the pc people i knew ever gave me a really hard time about it, though maybe a bit when the whole "yum" imac thing was new. i used to teach at a computer summer camp, and when we'd play capture the flag (real capture the flag, with flags, and dirt, and running) we'd always play mac vs. pc. thats when the best insults came. i wish i had written them down, but the banter across the saftey zone always went something like this:

mac kid: hey stupid pc user! tired of using a poorly designed rip-off of an operating system?

pc kid: hey loser! tired of not being able to play any games? and anyway, you guys stole your OS from xerox parc.

    mac kid: no we didn't!

    pc kid: yes you did!

etc, etc... and yes, "crapintosh" was a favorite too. oh, and the mac side nearly always won. pure fanaticism.

I have a friend who is taking video editing classes and their using Final Cut Pro.

Now he says any computers he buys in the future will definitely be Macs, not just for Final Cut Pro, he loves OS X.

Most of my friends have lessened on the anti mac propaganda, some even considered... but what I found out at college is that my international friends, for no reason, have a fervent dislike for macs. Yes, they've hardly used macs since macs are rare in their countries... yes they actually use them, even though they do not like them for whatever reason (one told me he preferred programming in java in X rather than XP, but he tells me macs suck???)... yeah whatever...

My friends all say macs suck because there slow, can't connect to the internet, and make you put the CD drive on the "window."

    Shows how much they know.

Crapintosh is one I've never heard, and I've got some really nasty friends.

Oh, and they don't have serial or parallel ports, either. Who uses parallel ports anymore?

Apple also took away the only thing that made them even consider coming over to the Mac, the formerly Mac-only iPod. Now it's fully compatible with Windows.

Seriously though, a friend of mine recently took his wife into PC World. She was very impressed by the Macs and asked why PCs couldn't be made the same way. My friend asked her to look at the prices, and with that she pulled him away to look at the PCs.

I think a lot of people do respect Macs, but the price is a major issue, especially for people with a young family to support.

Definitely! Most of my friends are regular consumer types, and whenever they see my G4 (plus the trimmings) it's when I'm downloading music via Acquisition, editing a photo in PhotoShop Elements, or Editing a movie in iMovie et al.

They are much impressed, and constatly blown away. Recently, I had a group over to review some background music for a video. Imagine their surprise when I pulled up hundreds of songs from my iDisc (FreePlay music). They thought that the files were on my computer. They were shocked to hear that they were on my .Mac account on the Web. So much so that they think Macs are more expensive than PC's because they cannot do the stuff that they see me do on their PC's.

It doesn't help that my setup looks 10x better, either.

They think that they can't afford a Mac. I try to show them otherwise, but--well, you guys know what I'm talking about. No need to explain here.

one of my friends REALLLY wants one but if any of the others mock them then I give thme very good reasons why its better and eventually they all admit they're better but usually have a reason like cant afford/not enough games to not buy one, but i certianly think one guy will be getting one soon seen as all he really does is audio.

It seems there is a common theme here. Macs are getting more respect in most areas except one major one -- price.
