Apple doesn't have a reputation for great marketing for no reason.
Very, very smart move to market this as a wonderful speaker....
that just happens to have a voice assistant too. That way Apple avoids the automatic comparison to Google Assistant and Alexa, a space where they might not match up as well right now. Gives them quite a while to get things up to speed with Siri capabilities, using HomePod as the test bed.
Smart!
But to characterize it as great marketing is to put the effect before the cause, don't you think?
The driving force here is advancing the technology to make great sound for the experience of the listener in a particular room. Pure aesthetics, as is usual with Apple, extended to "how it works."
This may be the first time adaptive acoustics has been developed for the mass market in a desirable, delicious way. There's a full-on computer in that speaker array.
The great marketing follows naturally from the great design. They've been working for years on the technology behind it. The horse (great sound) pulls the cart.
tired of waiting for VocalIQ tech Apple bought a while back. Maybe they'll announce the new Siri intelligence in September? if you don't know VocalIQ's voice assistant tech is years ahead of anything out now. Imagine it being closer to a Watson competitor.
the HomePod speaker is great but it's missing features I was hoping to see. Like the option to "heart" a song and various others through beautiful touch controls.
With the sound bar market being popular I don't know why they didn't mention it being an advanced sound bar//theatre also. I feel like this speaker can be anything you want it to be. Voice assistant. Home Hub. Bluetooth speaker. Party Starter. Surround Speaker. Sound bar. Musicologist/discovery.
People keep thinking it's a niche product but had Apple shown a demo reel of a guy waking up to his HomePod alarm and taking with him to the bathroom and played the news while he brushes his teeth, then asks for his rock playlist while he jumps in the shower. Then sitting it on the table as it reads a recipe for breakfast. He takes it to his car and plays his music through it on his way to work. At work he places it on his desk and listens to Beats 1. Later he heads to a party where he sets it up as he places his iPad on a DJ set then rocks a crowd. Exhausted after the party he picks up the few pieces(iPad/HomePod/Beats headphones) then goes home and sets it under his TV as he clicks the Apple TV remote and enjoys a movie.
THAT would have gotten people giddy as heck!
Sorry for the long post but I feel it can be so much more than we perceive and I wouldn't be surprised if we see updated versions frequently.
And if you don't believe it can get any better, believe me A there's ideas that'll blow your mind. Might have to email Apple.
