"Clash of Clans" and "Clash Royale" developer Supercell has revealed "Brawl Stars," an upcoming iOS multiplayer game that pits two teams of three players against each other in a top-down shooter, eliminating opponents and completing objectives in order to win the game.

The free-to-play "Brawl Stars" is set in a mine with players fighting over the location's gems, with the primary goal of collecting the gems or preventing the opposing team from acquiring them. Gems can be acquired by defeating the opposition and collecting their supply, or from the small mines around the arena.

Four game modes will be available to play, with Bounty requiring players to collect the most gems, Smash & Grab requiring the team to acquire ten gems and hold onto them to win, and Heist tasks teams with robbing their opponent's safe while simultaneously protecting their own. The fourth mode, Showdown, removes the gem mechanic in favor of a standard deathmatch, with ten players fighting within a slowly shrinking arena.

Like the Clans in its "Clash"-franchise games, "Brawl Stars" will let players join together in Bands, which will provide extra bonuses for members. Local and regional leaderboards will also be available, for players to compare themselves against the world.

Players can select from a number of characters with different super abilities, and can fight opponents by shooting or punching them. By collecting coins, elixir, and chips, the brawlers can be upgraded with new or more powerful abilities, and new characters can also be unlocked.

As a free-to-play title, Supercell advises that some in-game items can be acquired through in-app purchases, though details of what can be bought have not yet been revealed.

Supercell will initially making "Brawl Stars" available in the App Store in Canada, advising via Reddit that it is being used for testing to improve the game before a global launch. While it has been teased in a pre-recorded tournament on YouTube, there is no word on when it will be available to download.
