I bought three different bluetooth keyboards for my iPads including Brydge and Logitech and was not happy with any of them. Then Apple came out with the iPad Pro last year. I bought the 9.7 version with Apple's Smart Keyboard and Pencil and could not be more pleased. Apple's Smart Keyboard is just what I want for my iPad Pro because it is light, doesn't add too much bulk, and has excellent keys. Unless a competitor comes up with something better I will be sticking with what Apple provides.

I have had my Ipad Pro 12.9 for about a year and a half and have considered a keyboard case for awhile, but none really seemed ideal so I used a BT keyboard or the onscreen keyboard-and touch type.  Since I have a 15" Macbook Pro I wanted to keep it as light as possible but a full keyboard, preferably with backlit keys and more.  I bought the Slim Combo immediately and love it--the keyboard/keys are very nice to touch type on.  I didn't really expect to keep it on all the time but have found I do most of the time unless I'm just reading since I'm quite able to use it in my lap.  I flip the front wrist rest under and it works fine in lap or on a table/desk.  Its lighter and certainly much less bulky feeling than my Macbook Pro.  I have found it fits easily in one of my Rickshaw Ipad bags by using the center pocket instead of the front, carrying the Airpods with it and its ready for anywhere.  I use the Pencil loop when I'm using the Pencil but don't carry the Pencil in it all the time (but rather in a small case which fits in a Rickshaw bag too).

I had looked at the Apple keyboard of course, the Brydge and the older Logitech Create keyboard but preferred using it without any of those.  I decided to try the Slim Combo and found it just what I wanted/needed immediately.  I have had an Ipad since very early in the Ipad One--and was a long Win custom PC person + laptop but the Ipad has grown over the various models and I can use it for most of my business needs (docs and spreadsheets, photography, etc) and certainly personal.  The 12.9" suits me best overall though I use a Kindle to read in bed-less distracting and small.  I'm so looking forward to IOS11 to make the Ipad Pro be a really productive device with the Slim Combo keyboard.

When you want to leave the keyboard at home, will a thin regular cover fit with the hard case back?

Ultimately what is needed is an IPad dock -- containing a full blown keyboard with full movement of the keys as well as connectors for external storage and display and, well, whatever....

The current configuration of trying to be all things to all people is good and serves the needs of some.  But, its not "Insanely Great"
