For those who are not old enough, back in the day there were two competing network types. Ethernet and Token-ring. The latter was pushed by IBM. The former (originally developed by Xerox, Intel and Dec) won out.
I used to build token-ring cables when we migrated to (back then) the new IBM AS/400 in our corporate data center. Damn, those cables were massive and a pain in the backside to construct. Sometimes, I wonder what IBM was smoking when they came up with that setup.
You probably had to deal with Blue Glue (SNA) back then also. I did. BTW, I still use 3270 and COBOL...
This is such a dumb product. I'm sure the creators will get rich off of dumb investors and it'll have a decently long 1 or 2 year life, but it'll fail. Exactly like Coin and Pebble. Launching after Apple already created a better solution. Didn't feel sorry for those investors who lost their money. Don't feel sorry for these either. Or the customers that will get a stupid product.
