Apple acquired VocalIQ long ago for very cheap. Basically "discovered" them. VocalIQ created an AI system that recognizes human speech %90 of the time where Siri is closer to %30.

and no they didn't just ask robotic questions but tested with actual conversation.

Basically like 30%? Siri might have some issues, but its speech recognition is a lot better than 30%. 30% means that in every single sentence of 10 words, only 3 of those words will be correct. Or, every 10 times you ask it something, 7 of those times what it comes up with is completely unrelated to what you just said. That's nonsense. Even the original iPhone 4S Siri had very good voice recognition. Especially compared to the old-world train-against-your-voice variety. IMO the voice assistant phenomenon only became possible because the basic voice recognition far exceeds 90%.

Before everyone flies off the handle exclaiming Apple has lost their mind, read the story carefully.

This is a short film or rather an extended commercial. I don't view it any differently than the short films they create to open WWDC except they're releasing it in Youtube. It's simply an introduction to the new Siri with updates already announced. Perfect precursor to the new iPhone release coming soon.
I sure hope they release VocalIQ tech the day this is released. Otherwise this film will be cringey.

I think Siri has something cool up its sleeve. I am sure Apple engineers are cooking something special for us. What do you guys think?

So you’re claiming that all the conversation between The Rock and Siri was faked? Wouldn’t that be false advertising? Shouldn’t you be opening a complaint with the FTC? Or are you just a putz?

    I vote for the latter...

I didn’t get this. It didn’t show Siri doing anything amazing. After a while it got annoying hearing him say ‘Hey Siri’. Certainly didn’t need to be almost 4 minutes long.
What do you want Siri to do, flip some pancakes for you in the morning? Please tell me...what exactly do you want Siri to do?

What was the point of this ad when it’s not showing off any new capabilities? Is Apple just admitting that people aren’t using Siri so they have to remind them it exists? If that’s all this is, I think the Cookie Monster ad was much better (and didn’t need to be nearly as long).

I don't think you know how advertising works.

Ridiculous. How much did that ad cost? I hear the Dodgers are looking for a corporate namesake for their stadium. Perhaps Apple could waste some more cash and put their brand on Chavez Ravine.

    Google "the rock" and "siri"

Then go to IMDB and count the number of films he has in some stage of production between now and 2018; it's eleven films not including his "Ballers" series, and he fills all quadrants of viewers. Apple would do well to work with him a few more times this year and next.

Apple gets huge and very positive exposure from this. I'm actually hoping for a sequel during the iPhone 8's release in September, maybe a Jumanji AR would hit the spot.

With all of the analyses that have declared Apple not having a clue about Hollywood, how did this film remain a secret?
It’s not a film, it’s an long-form ad posted to YouTube.
While yes, it is an ad, technically it is also a short film.

So instead of spending $2-3 MM on a commercial you want Apple to spend $15-20 MM per year on Dodgers Stadium!

did you complain about the "1984" super bowl commercial airing during the Super Bowl? That's a lot of money just got airtime.

No, I would be against Apple buying the naming rights to Dodgers stadium as well. The word "waste" in my previous remark should have been a clue that sarcasm was intended. The 1984 commercial was brilliant. This Rock video is just dumb in my opinion. Sorry, not a fan.

I'm "dumb" enough to want to see a "Jumanji" ARKit video and/or app prior to the film release.
