    Any discussion of autonomous vehicles and their future must take into consideration not just the technology factor but the willingness of car manufacturers to go along with it, government regulations, as well as insurance and liability concerns.  Particularly the latter...    A few well placed accidents could put even the largest, most successful organization out of business...

    An analogy is the cable infrastructure:  they've been dragging their feet on innovation for 20, 30 maybe 40 years.   They do not want to disrupt their very profitable status quo.   Of late, change is being thrust on them, but they are delaying as much as they can.  
    ... Conversely, the cable companies hold a much tighter cartel over the industry than do auto manufacturers.
