I think IBM (or maybe Lenovo) might come down and file a suit against Apple. This looks a lot like IBM ThinkPad mouse nubs :-)

Really? It has come down to this? They are even taking pre-order for the stickers - Wow! And we are not concerned about climate change!
You can put that on the docket but first we need to deal with this red dot catastrophe¡

They should have at least made it blue and it would echo Cartier.

It was pretty amusing watching Neil completely flip his shit in slack during the event when it was confirmed the red dot was actually really real.

He hates it so much. So so much. 😂

This thread has triggered me with the mention of climate change and should be shut down by moderators as soon as possible so I don't have any further trauma....."Out, damn'd spot!

My red dot is ceramic, not a cheap sticker, and will be beautiful, next Friday.

I’m still in disbelief. It has now turned into post traumatic stress disorder.

This has to be some kind of indicator for surveillance environments (like casinos or aerospace) or something.

The red dot on my stainless steel model will look just fine.

If you receive a phone call, will both AW and iPhone ring? If so, that means the telecomm company sent out one signal.  Why does ATT wants to charge ten dollars a month?  I think the only thing is ATT will register both device on its master list. Or ATT does not care what device it is. Because when I switch a phone by just inserting the sim card to the new phone, it works I'mmediately.
You must have an engineering degree. Good for you! MIT?

It’s ugly because it’s a random color that doesn’t match the rest of the device. It’s an unnecessary, arbitrary decision not linked to engineering or any other consideration other than someone’s like of the color. I don’t want to replace mine with a red-dotted version.
You don't have a choice. You must replace your Apple Watch.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't think the red dot looks bad at all, especially on the space gray case.
    I like it also.

While I don’t necessarily think the red dot is “hideous”, I also don’t understand the logic behind it. Apple has never cared about visually distinguishing its  cellular from non-cellular devices before. So why is it doing it with this product, in such a strong and prominent fashion? It’s not exactly subtle. Is an excuse to put a design flourish? Odd to add red to all colours. And why does it need to be distinguished anyway? Is the user going to forget on a daily basis that it’s the cellular model? There are much more hidden and subtle ways to mark the fast that it’s the cellular version, that don’t affect the design.

I just don’t understand this particular decision. Seems so arbitrary. I’d love a REAL explanation from Apple as to why they chose to do this, just for my own curiosity.

People are whining on everything. Fck it. I remember you guys cried out for not having Tim Cook's red-dot AW1. Now you have it and still whine! Humans are unbelievable.

They preferred not to, you’re right, but the laws of physics got in the way.

I never claimed that. I stated that this is arbitrary and certainly not attractive to people who don’t want a random red dot on their metal watch. We’re all here to discuss our opinions, if that is problematic for you don’t participate.

Now that they can put the antennas in the display will they remove the radio bar on the back of iPads? Will they now offer the cellular upgrade for $70 with the new chip they built?

How is the dot in any way random? It's specifically part of the Digital Crown. The problem you have is that it's deliberate yet without a known utility to the user, unlike the notch on the iPhone X, where you know it's not attractive but you accept it because you understand the relevant of the sensors that are in the notch area.
