Only one hour talk time! Also one cannot use the watch outside the country.
So what's the point?  If it doesn't do what you want then don't buy one.  But it's an amazing piece of technology packed into a super small package.  I'm sure the batteries will get better every year, but 1 hour of talk time is all battery technology can offer at this point.

So $399/$429 for the watch, plus $120/year for the contract, and you still need your iPhone plus its contract. I wish I was rich like you guys. I'll stick to my waterproof dumb watch for $40.
It's true that not many poor people will be buying one soon.
But otherwise it's mostly a matter of priorities...
...  For a runner who prefers not to carry a phone its a biggee.
...  For an old fart afraid of "I've fallen and I can't get up" it's a biggee.

Me? I'm both.   But still $500 (with tax and AppleCare) is a stiff bill.   But actually, my cell carrier (Consumer Cellular) may make the decision for me.   I called them today and heard:
"Gee, let me talk to my supervisor"
"Probably -- we accept most things if it has a SIM card tray"
Me:   Does she even know what it is?

I'm pretty sure I saw that you can turn the LTE on an off as needed, similar to a cellular iPad.  So, you can get the watch without paying the extra $10/month.  Then, if this month you feel like you'll be using the Watch sans iPhone you can get service for the month, pay $10 and then turn it off again when you no longer need it.
