Precisely. It's an unwritten rule that when you have a top-of-the-line Mercedes or BMW you don't whine that it costs 4x to fix than a Honda Civic.
You want to run with the big dogs, you've got to lift your tail a little higher.
Agreed. The whole thing is getting to be ridiculous. But the analogy is perfect. Just because you have the money to buy a Mercedes does not mean you can afford one. If you want the latest tech, be prepared and know all costs involved.
Some corner stores repair iPhones and iPads at a much lower cost than Apple. There are a lot of affordable used parts floating around out there.
I once paid an Apple Store in an affluent mall to replace a screen on a dropped iPhone and it came back with a mute-button issue, it heats up for no reason sometimes and the front isn't totally sealed to the chassis (only 99%). It's not like the actual engineers work in the Apple Store somewhere, it's more like a car dealership.
At some corner stores you can talk with the owners while staring at their EE degrees on the wall and the stories you will hear...
Applecare is an extended warranty. Like all extended warranties, it exists because according to the stats/numbers, extended warranties are generally 95% (or more) pure profit.
