Alongside a slew of other operating system revisions, Apple has also updated iTunes to version 12.7.1 with only minor changes implemented.

Apple says very little about the update, beyond the traditional "minor app and performance improvements." The release notes reiterate that iTunes now "focuses on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks."

The original release of iTunes 12.7 removed the ability to sync and download apps in iTunes intended for iOS devices. Apple suggests users "use the new App Store or Sounds Settings on iOS to redownload them without your Mac."

The ability to back up an iOS device remains in iTunes, meaning the software will still serve as a hardware management interface, at least for now.

However, Apple did not purge the apps from user drives, and manually purging them can free up significant storage space.

The iTunes update is 190MB in size, and available through the App Store.

Earlier on Tuesday, Apple released iOS 11.1, tvOS 11.1, watchOS 4.1, and macOS High Sierra 10.13.1. Also deployed was the first developer beta test version of High Sierra 10.13.2.

Key fix for me: in 12.7, when looking at songs in column browser view, which I use 100% of the time, the adjustable center divider that separates the top columns of artist (left) and album (right), from the song list below, would constantly reset to a tiny top portion, forcing you to readjust this any time you move away from that view/media type, which for my usage meant fiddling with it constantly.

This appears to be fixed in 12.7.1, so yay for that.

Yes, I do use it.  On Windows 10 to be exact. No issues here.

I use it all the time, primarily
    1. It's my home stereo, beaming to various airplay speakers depending on which room I'm in. (My library is on my MacBook Pro, so I can cart it around the house, or leave it and control the playback via the remote app on my phone)
    2. I sync my music to my phone and ipad, as I have very huuuge music library, and am not interested in streaming services.

I use it to play movies on my Apple TV, and to manage the app screens on my phone.  That's pretty much it.  I haven't yet updated, as I don't want to lose the latter.  Yet.  I'm sure I'll upgrade at some point.
