The money is in content creation. Steve learned this at PIXAR and made mention of this on many occasions. Like Netflix, Apple and Amazon will create entire arsenals of new shows and before you know it those traditional networks will start becoming bankrupt one by one.

"Apple's own efforts collapsed in 2015 for the same reasons."

No, "It's rumored Apple's own efforts collapsed in 2015 for the same reasons." We don't even know if there were efforts, let alone why they didn't come to pass. There are only rumors.

They're investing tens of billions in Hollywood to be a major studio producer of original content. There are no more efforts to cater to networks. They are becoming their own and will just move passed them all, just like Netflix. In fact, I see Netflix, Amazon and Apple building an alliance where each offers their products as a shared solution cutting out Cable and Satellite all together.

In a few years the networks will wish they had signed deals with Amazon and Apple because their product is moving towards obsolescence. A typical network channel in the DC metro area consists of news from 4-7am (traffic-weather-warnings-sports->repeat), a crappy morning show, talks shows until 4pm and the news until 7pm, followed by game shows or Hollywood gossip shows and finally the network products followed by the news (traffic-weather-warnings-sports->repeat) and crappy late night shows (political commentary). As everyone knows the networks don't have much to stand on with a limited number of shows appealing to individuals. My watched shows may not be yours, but the commonality is there are more not watched than watched. They have sports on the weekend if you are interested in that. They even took cartoons off Saturday morning. It is a sad state of affairs with the products of little or no value to most.

Nobody needs the weather or for the most part national news as you can find it by looking online or on any of the cable news networks.

i just searched Amazon.  The Apple TV is no longer listed for sale on Amazon.  Tried a quick search for "Apple TV", "Apple TV 4th gen", and "newest Apple TV".  The only thing that came up were a bunch of mounts and cables.   Show by price high to low didn't do it either.

    Off to my meeting....

I think they did that over 2 years ago.

edit: Yep. Just over 25 months ago.

I just want the Amazon Video app on my Apple TV. Or, maybe I'll buy an Amazon Fire TV Stick. A friend of mine got one. I like the lyrics display and full-screen album art that my Apple TV lacks.
At this point, AppleTV is a second-tier product. I think the last time I used it was two or three months ago. In its early days, I used to use it daily.

Whoever is in charge of that disaster should be kicked to the curb.

I effectively use it every day and with a lot more apps than I use to. It's a great device and it's both the only device I use for my TV and the only remote control I use since CEC works perfectly to turn on, turn off, and adjust volume of the TV.

Occasionally I have used the TV's app for Spotify and Amazon Video since these aren't currently options with tvOS, so I will need the TV remote for that, but Amazon is coming (eventually). Even after it does I may rarely use the app as Amazon is purposely making their service difficult to use by not separating streaming content included with your Prime membership and streaming content you can rent.

Use it every day for stuff like TV catchup, the occasional TED talk, annoying friends with holiday pics… Sometimes I have it on just to see the backgrounds.

Is this Eddie Cue’s fault too?

Guess these networks are as stubborn as some thought.

I wonder where Apple is going with their original content?
Let’s hope Apple makes the TV app more simple and fun to use also.
I'm really curious to see what kind of new original content Apple releases. I think they are in for some pretty stiff competition, especially seeing that Amazon announced it acquired the rights to the Lord of the Rings TV series. Disney is making a Star Wars TV series for their new streaming platform.
Disney is going to make a subscriber out of me with that Star Wars series.

I should have been more specific:  Apple TV is no longer listed on Amazon AGAIN.   Meaning, it’s been dropped a second time from Amazon.  It was just put back on in September 2017.
