This is a "ported" cross platform application. I hope Amazon customized the iOS and AppleTV versions to Apple platforms more. Same thing with DirecTV Now, you just get the lowest common denominator of all the various platforms.
The AppleTV and iOS apps still perform better than their counterparts on other platforms. I can see the AppleTV app growing into the glue that pulls it all together. Time will tell.
I'm seeing The Grand Tour Season 2 is being delivered at 50 hz, which is not right for the US. Same as Jame's May's Cars of the People. Seasons 1 of TGT is 23.98 which is correct.
Tried on two different ATV 4K's to two different sets. ATV is set at 4k SDR with frame rate and color space matching on or off... no difference...
