Have you seen any evidence that Google or Amazon or Apple can listen to everything going on in your home, or is "listening" to and connecting your profile with every sound in the background when you make a request? Anything is possible of course but encouraging everyone to worry over "possible" but lacking any evidence for "probable" amounts to no more than fear-mongering doesn't it?
I was watching a TV news show about this either yesterday or the day before. I can't remember which network and I couldn't find it online but during an interview with a security expert Alexa piped up unexpectedly without anyone prompting her to do so to the surprise of both the expert and the interviewer. Anyway, the main topic of the interview was the "potential" for security and privacy issues. No proof was offered just an observation that it was possible.
Haha...exactly. Not to sound contrary, but I will never have a Google, Microsoft or Samsung product in my home!
Especially a product that is able to listen to anything going on in your home. Sure, if an assistant was listening without your permission it would be discovered and exposed immediately by security experts, so probably not something to worry too much about, but still if you say "Hey Google" the device can listen to any other audio going on in the background while it is listening to your commands/requests. For example something like what program is playing on the TV. Just more info to add to your profile. Bottom line is if you are going get one go these HomePod - like devices, you really have to trust the company that is providing the service. Personally, at my age I'm more interested in downsizing and simplifying my life rather than complicating it with new gadgets.

Weighing the advantages of our Assistants to the known downsides and for me and millions of others the pluses come out on top. If that ever changes I'll reconsider as will others.
It's not FUD, it's a prudent sentiment. Would you disagree with "Bottom line is if you are going get one go these HomePod - like devices, you really have to trust the company that is providing the service."?

Alexa does that to me pretty frequently. I will be watching TV then all of a sudden she will say she didn't understand the question or gives some bizarre answer to something else. It scares the shit out of me when she suddenly speaks. I had to turn the volume low.
