So what is Apple’s strategy here? Are they going after Netflix? Disney? Amazon? All of them? Will this original programming be part of an Apple Music subscription? I’m hoping this stuff gets moved out of Apple Music and into the TV app.

It's going to be bundled as a Apple Media subscription eventually for sure, say $30 month for a family plan for both music and video. I think they tried to license the media for that kind of service, but all the content provider are saying no go (or they re taking a cut Apple considers too high), so they'll have to have their own content at the core of the video part.
Original? Glen Larson created the original in 1978. Moore didn’t create anything original.
Idiots on parade.
The article wasn't talking about the original series. It was talking about the creator of the remake, and that Apple is getting him to do an original series, not that he created the original series.
The remake was brilliant, some of the best sci-fi on TV. There have been other good sci-fi shows but none really as good until The Expanse. I look forward to seeing what Apple has wrought. It has to be better than their 'remake' of Carpool Karaoke.
Looking for original material in the SF genre, give Honor Harrington from David Weber the GCI treatment for the screen. Several projects were proposed by the now apparently defunct Evergreen Studios.
Yes, please.
But given current production values, I suspect the character development would suffer and be supplanted by the action stuff. Plus, TV doesn't generally like it when main characters die. I suspect that something in that universe, peripheral to Harrington's exploits, would make better TV fare, though I'd love to see well done movie treatments of Honor's timeline.

It would work best as a mini series like...I dunno...Hornblower.

LOL! I see what you did there!
For those who aren't familiar with it, Weber's Honor Harrington is modeled on Horatio Hornblower.
