... Apple does not have, as you insinuate, a political agenda ...
so why lobby the government so hard? spending on lobbying by Apple has almost doubled since Trump took office. Also, paying as little tax as possible via any loopholes possible does not translate into doing "what is best for the world at large." in my eyes, that's purely whats best for profits.
You're describing every single corporation's behavior with regard to taxes. Anyone that has a problem with that should talk to congress and about changing the laws.
So Apple involves itself in issues that have nothing to do with producing good products and running a successful business such as immigration and LBGT+ issues that are the political play things of left ideology and the Democrats in the US. But it is the the right and the Republicans who really give a rats about Apple's (and other corp's businesses) by giving them a partial holiday on repatriated cash. But of course there is no heartfelt "thank you" from Tim and his silly idealogues at Apple for helping the business. It's time for corporate heavies to acknowledge those who really do care about the success of their enterprises, not just social media's "warm and fuzzies".
The reason Apple and many companies pander to the these groups is because they are the most vocal of all groups. The people who are pro business and pro individuals are too busy making a living to spend their time callout companies. Apple knows if they are not on the right side of these vocal groups there will be a fire storm of bad press for them. I have worked for large companies and we hear all the time about brand image and the company has to do things to protect the brand which includes the behavior of every employee. My experience is most of these actions has nothing to do with being altruistic to these issues it all about making money. Employees feel good since they think they are somehow helping but in the end it is about keeping the money flowing. If a different group began to be louder, companies will change directions.
One simple example I have talked about this before. Apple gets flack about labor abuses in China, even though Apple does not employee any of these workers and China already has laws in place to protect workers, but does not enforce them. So Apple gets attached since China gives the middle finger to these groups so these groups go after Apple since they know Apple will need to respond or the brand will suffer. In the mean time Apple spends lots of time and money fixing the public image in the mean time 1000 other US companies manufacturing in China have workers still being abused and the problem is not fixed by those groups feel good since they got apple to respond to them.
WOW. You seem to be implying that people who are or support LGBTQ and immigrant rights are what, unemployed? Not professionals? Not to mention you're completely ignoring the fact that Apple proudly employs LGBTQ people and immigrants themselves. That's super messed up. You know Tim Cook is gay, right?

Most of the vocal one's tend to live off other people's hard earn income to be vocal about issues. These people and groups are real good at getting the media coverage and making companies think they are going to loose business if they do not change directions. How do these individuals who spend their days highlighting what everyone else is doing wrong create value (i know the value is what they do for society, but you can live off that). They do not make a product or service that people want to buy, they have to pull at people's heart strings to get the money so they can attack companies like Apple to make a social issue into a company profit issue. They attack companies since they can not convince the everyday person to do the right thing. if people every day made the right moral, just, and ethical decision then you would not have to pressure companies.
In one case I truly believe Apple and the people who work there have no business motives behind the LGBTQ movement, why because Apple was the very first large company who hired without any concerns about a persons sexual preference and this dates back to the early 80's before it was fashionable or before people were making it a trigger issue. Apple never discriminated that way, they always hired the best person for the job. Yes, I know Tim is gay and that has no baring on how he runs the company. Tim does a great job because he is good at what he does not because he is gay. Give him credit for being a great CEO not because he is a Gay CEO that devalues him as an individual.
To your point, I personally put in 8 to 10 hours days at work, come home make dinner for the family, spend quality time with my wife and kids, run them around on the weekend doing all their activities do some of my hobbies, do some volunteering at local communities things, leaving very little time for anything else. I do all this so I can pay my bills, save money for a retirement, and make sure I have money to put my kids through college. I know my employer would not be happy if I spend my day advocating for something I feel very strongly about which did not make them money. If my employer is not making money then I am not going to make a living supporting my family. If I had my own business it would be the same thing, but in this country today you are not allowed to run your business the way you want if a group thinks you should be pandering to them. They will drag you into court and into the media to make your see it their way.
BTW I know I am a minority, due to the fact I have savings and retirement and very little debt, thus the reason if people spent more time trying to earn a living they would not be pressing companies to take up their social issues. I also feel it socially irresponsible to live off society, dump kids education on society, and make society pay for my mistakes. Can you say the same.
