The faster the ACA falls apart and market-based competition is everywhere the faster we’ll see real innovation and automation taking over in healthcare. The systems in place today are completely (and needlessly) archaic.
So, like before the ACA?
I'm curious if Apple would have these AC Wellness places in other countries or if they'd be non-viably redundant to the more available and affordable health systems existing elsewhere besides the U.S.
Well, just like Amazon is doing for their employees, this is Apple creating an employee specific solution. There’s really no evidence (yet) that either company is interested in offering this to the wider public. After cross state lines competition is opened by the Federal government, things will really start heading in the right direction.
There's one very large difference that is commonly overlooked in the political/ideological battles: Every government proposal whether Republican or Democrat has to do with paying for healthcare. What Apple and Amazon are targeting is the source of the problem: the providing of healthcare.
It's not the insurance companies (public or private) driving up costs at roughly double the rate of inflation over the last 50 years, it's the providers of the healthcare. And, despite the exorbitant costs, the U.S. ends up with relatively mediocre care.
Apple's initiative is actually at the level even below the providing of heathcare and includes actual prevention (as opposed to early detection) which will eliminate the need for either the providing or the paying for the Disease Treatment -- which is the only thing our so called healthcare system provides. ... If you don't get sick, you need neither the doctor nor the insurance to pay him.
