Apple will launch a new store in the Shinjuku ward of Tokyo on Apr. 7, giving the company another outlet in Japan's capital.

Known also as "R128," the shop will be based on the first floor of the Shinjuku Marui Main Building, a department store not far from Shinjuku Station and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. It will open at 10 a.m. local time on the 7th, and operate from 10 to 9 seven days a week.

The outlet will become Apple's eighth in Japan. Other Tokyo locations include ones in Ginza and Shibuya.

Japan is a vital market for Apple, a place where the iPhone is extremely popular even with the availability of less expensive Android phones, including some made by local firms like Sony. The iPhone is largely responsible for spreading the concept of emoji outside of Japan, since Apple was the first major foreign phone maker to adopt them natively in its OS.

Very interesting re: the history of Emojis and Apple’s small part in it. I never thought to look into it. (And I thought that Android OS was spending them “first.“)
