But it still stands that someone at Gateway had to okay it or give final approval, right?

ah, yes, pscates, you are entirely correct, BUT, if you used to work in an idiotic environment such as this as you say (and as i am currently sentenced to do), you know as well as i that some poor production person got saddled with the blame, AND the design company lost the gateway account because of this -- even though it was gateway's fault to approve it.
god, i gotta win the lottery and start my own business so i can laugh in the faces of some of these executive schmucks one day.

You are, of course, entirely correct.
The higher-ups would NEVER take any heat for this, deserved or otherwise.
Some poor schmo probably got reamed a new one (merry Christmas, pal...), possibly got canned (...and happy new year...) for "dropping the ball", meanwhile the pinhead suit(s) who signed off on the thing are enjoying their 5 figure Christmas bonus and hitting on their secretary.
A year ago I got a Dell/Windows ad that was promoting how well Win2k worked on Dells, the picture on the ad was an older Mac monitor (little apple clearly visible) and it was running Netscape in Mac OS 9. A shame I didn't save it.

I'll never work for The Man again.
