Wow. Challenges. There are those who would shrink away from something like that and, say, troll for posts in a tiny little corner of the internet. Yeah, that sure is reason for resignation.

You are so transparent, Luvvy-duvvy. Take a number. It's sad to see another person like you come through here, thinking you're smarter, better, original, different. Just another nobody taking all of this a little too much to heart.

What a bunch of crap! For all the reasons listed above and then some : Trollarama. You obviously don't know much about Apple or Macusers. Just trying to get some attention? Well this has been tried before.......many times. It really gets tiresome.

This is where I see Apple has painted itself into a corner--somehow Apple has always believed that it can go about business differently than everyone else, and it can't. I think this is Steve's naiveté about business--that somehow he could create his own business model that the world hasn't seen before. Unfortunately he seems to be learning the hard way that the world doesn't work in that way. "Oh, sorry guys, we forgot to charge you for iTools. Sometimes I forget we're a business."

I see this more with the addition of the Apple stores, which I really think are going to kill Apple in the long term (read: closings and layoffs). Fixed costs and overhead--what the hell are they thinking?

I think Apple is in a perfect place to be saved again--but not by Steve Jobs. I will give him credit for pointing Apple in the right direction (except the stores, of course) but that's where I draw the line. Apple needs a business-savvy CEO, not a self-proclaimed visionary. Worship Hour is over kids. Wake up.

I thought you just had a dry teasing sense of humour, but now I suspect that you may have some issues that need addressing!

I would just like to ask a few questions:

What do you do as a day job?

How many companies have you rescued from the threat of Chapter 11?

A couple of thousand people queue to listen to what Steve Jobs has to say; I suspect that you would have difficulty getting 20 sheep to listen to your witterings. As for the advice of Merrill Lynch, I would say that - given the financial industry's recent record of double-dealing and outright fraud - anything uttered by a member of an investment bank should be treated with caution as - sadly - we can no longer be certain of the motivation behind the statement.

You know I hate Steve's little quirks, but Apple just can't stomach the major changes that a CEO swap would bring at this point. I hate Steve's inability to grasp the concept of low price, but he's got some titanium/anodized aluminum balls on him to go after what he can. He will have to cross the low price bridge eventually, but where Apple has access to competitive components, they do a bang up job, see 12 and 17" PB's.

    Prove it.

What's wrong with hippies. I like Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Whether or not hippies were involved is irrelevant. What, are you looking for emotional resoponses. Get a grip and stop trolling. And what the heck corner are you talking about? Open source, Unix, connectivity??

Thinking different can be and often is the best way to think. I provide no proof here but then again you give no proof. Heck, I will provide proof - Fed Ex.

Apple stores in my opinion are and were the only way to gain public mindshare. Prove me wrong. Only time will tell. Retail outlets that were handling Apple computers were a disgrace and extremely counterproductive. Apple tried with the store within a store @ CompUSA and had only modest success. Online ONLY WON'T CUT IT.

Business savvy CEO's like Enron, American Airlines, etc. Define business-savvy. You don't know Steven Jobs nor any of the other Apple corporate officers. You are even more uninformed than the analysts @ Merril Lynch.

Merrill Lynch..., now there's a reliable source. Most of those jerks would be in jail if we'd had better laws. Steve should take the company private. Trust me, he'd have plenty of support. Apple is an American treasure. You don't have to be the biggest to be the best. As far as Apple needing a "Corporate CEO", don't you really mean a rubber stamped Public Company CEO? Those guys aren't all they're cracked up to be. But I'm sure we could find one if the pay package is competetive. Stay Gold Steve!

If they continue to innovate and find ways to dominate their unique markets, time and cost effective manufacturing will allow them to gain market from the McDonald's of computers and software. No ones dominance of an industry lasts forever.

Listen MacLuv, after your 'Monica & Steve' and your 'Porn Hub' threads I'm suprised (at myself even) that anyone even bothers with your self-masturbatory comments at all. But, whatever, I like watching monkeys at the zoo as much as the next guy, so herewego...

Of course Steve is going to resign soon. Not '2003' soon but '2005' soon. He's still got a lot of work to do to prove that he was *right* all along, and he'll resign after that, not before. Once his 'NeXT big thing' is truly a part of our lives he'll go on to fry other fish. Easy. Simple. No cause for alarm. Kapish?

As far as your goading goes...listen, we're sorry your tablet(ish) thingy isn't catching on. We're sorry your new licensing scheme is a fiasco. We're sorry about that whole Linux thing creeping in your backdoor, and we're really and truly sorry that you're going to have to teach your programmers Java. Maybe you should think about resigning, huh?

But, at the same time, you get this article, from the opposite perspective:

Come on - the giddy pleasure that Steve exhibits on stage when he does these keynotes is obvious. He LOVES his work. He loves what Apple stands for. I know it is stupid, but I felt honestly moved when at once point he leaned out and looked at the audience and said, "this is why we do what we do." Or something that effect, about why they bust their ass to make some of the best, most creative applications ever seen. Robust technology with an ease of use the average consumer can use and be inspired by.

Agreed. I loved that moment too. It's like he was talking to nobody and everybody and himself at the same time. He loves it and absorbs it all to the point of being a...well....an AI member! (and you thought I was going to say fanatic, didn't you?).

FWIW, I thought Steve was on fire today!! If he were to resign now, he'd go out on top. But I think he's just getting started.

Steve won't resign. Even if he's unable to improve Apple's marketshare, Apple is at least pushing the envelope in design. He'd probably rather be remembered for that than keeping Apple alive. I think he could do both, which is why I'm sort of disappointed.
