Thanks for the article. RR Donnelly has created a Photos extension called Motif

Reading this just makes me even sadder than Apple are shuttering their printing service.

I guess I’ll use Loxley Colour in the UK. Their quality is excellent but they’re a million miles away from Apple in terms of usability.
We don't know if it was apple or the other company that is shuttering the printing service the article isn't detailed in that regard so lets not jump to conclusions that apple is to blame.

As the Product owner for Motif, I think I can shed some helpful light on this topic. RR Donnelley, via its subsidiary CDS, has been and is the supplier of print services to Apple for its photo book, calendar and card products. Created by RR Donnelley, Motif is a new consumer brand and software extension to Photos on macOS.

Motif launched in early July and is currently available for download in the macOS App Store. You can use Motif right now to create photo books, calendars and cards, and in the same form factors as Apple’s products. All Motif photo projects print in the exact same facilities using the exact same staff, materials, processes and presses as Apple does. They are literally identical and will remain so (while also expanding to include some great new physical products).

On the software side, Motif is the only Photos project extension that is fully macOS native. As such, Motif delivers the intelligence, elegance, fluidity and performance you expect from a native app. Motif also has a delightfully rich, highly interactive, and simply fun set of features that put the joy back in creating printed photo projects.

We’re very eager for everyone to give Motif a try and to experience both our exciting feature set and the absolute continuity of quality you’ll delight in when your Motif photo books, calendars or cards arrive. We’re also happy to engage with you and to answer any questions you might have. So please feel free to reach out.

One of the appealing features of the Apple offering was fast and free shipping to Canada. Will Motif offer that?

Motif is currently domestic only but international support is one of our top priorities and will start rolling out early this fall.

I would add Mimeo Photos to the list. I've been using it since early 2018 and it's a great Mac Store App that allows you to convert all your apple projects right inside Photos. And the printing quality is the same since Mimeo Photos has been doing this for Apple for a while now. I would highly recommend you check out the app https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mimeo-photos/id1282504627?mt=12

I wish the article talked about the quality of these services. I can compare prices on my own.

Not fair at all, I think i am going to divorce from Apple. I never saw any notice on the Net about the fact that they were going to stop printing books until too late. Exrtremely disrespectfull toward Apple 's costumers.

How could you miss it? I'm pretty sure I even got an EMAIL from Apple telling me exactly that!

Yes, they sent an email. I also received several notifications within Photos of the cutoff date of September 30. Considering it’s been almost 5 months since Apple ended its Print Services and a few more than that since they started notifying I’d say the OP wasn’t printing books particularly often. That right there sort of justifies Apple’s decision.
