Panic Medic Boot caused by Third Party kernel extension

Posted:
in Genius Bar

My MacBook has entered Panic Boot several times over the last few days. Most of the times it has happened while starting the laptop, it doesnt make any sound and I dont get to see the Apple log, I know its on because the usb mouse sensor is on. After several tries, the computer goes off. I let it rest ten minutes and then try again, it has always worked.

Initially I had bitTorrent, CleanmyMac.app and Avast security as login items, all of that is off now, but I still keep on bumping into the same problem

I have tried to solve the problem myself but I am not sure what could be causing it. I have run a test with EtreCheck and here are the results. It would be great if anyone could help me figure out how to solve this issue, or at least to understand if its hardware or software, I live in a place with very high humidity and I am considering this might be related (since other devices in my house have started failing too).

Thank you in advanced for the support.

I dont think I am running any software tha is using Ilock. Could it be from trying to install Logic Pro or Pro tools?

FUSE is hopelessly out of date (2014) and can routinely cause kernel panics if not updated. It is installed with some virtual machines for accessing exotic filesystems. Might be in Extensions and/or Frameworks in addition to the preference pane.

Also, make sure that your iLok copy protection is up-to-date. The PACE extension (and the Eden.pace stuff) is part of that and can get screwy if it’s not explicitly compatible with your system version.

This is my bet. Nice work on spotting Fuse, though, I didn't even see it.

Thank you for the replies. I have been trying to find out what FUSE is, I am not able to figure it out. The only reason it might be installed on my computer is because of my Parallel Desktop installation. Does that make sense? And can you suggest a way of updating it/getting rid of it? I have tried to google this question with no success.
What about iLock, is there a way to remove it? Do I need to have it installed?
Sorry if the question are too obvious, I have not been able to find anwsers online.

The iLok/PACE copy protection is required by Antares' Auto Tune plug-in (and possibly others) for authorisation. Keep it up-to-date, but do not remove it.

FUSE: used to be installed with some virtualisation. I don’t think it came with Parallels, but some other package. At any rate, it was installed in 2014, so it is definitely outdated.

    Uninstall here, in section 2.3:

    Hi Again,
I tried uninstalling iLok and Pace, but the problem was still there.
After several crashes I decided to restore my laptop to factory settings, hoping this would finish the problem. When reinstalling High Sierra, I also had to choose to fomat the disk on APFS .
It didn't. It has crashed again two times, and it is always after leaving it overnight. So basically it only happens after leaving it off or to sleep for several hours.
Here is the results of the Analysis.
Any kind of help would be appreciated.
