I don't understand why Apple uses a smart connector for their keyboard. Bluetooth has worked quite well to connect keyboards for many years -- and also works very smoothly on the the regular iPad.
I gotta think Apple has a reason -- they don't do dumb stuff like adding a part that serves no function (the iPad already has bluetooth). So, I just don't get it.
1. not having to charge the keyboard separately 2. not having to manually switch the keyboard on/off
I use a bluetooth keyboard and am quite happy with it but the frustration of the above 2 points strikes quite regularly.
Ok, so for all the reasons listed above, I agree that this is most likely a bogus rumor, but has anyone considered the possibility of having *2* sets of connectors, so you could use your device in either portrait or landscape mode?
As for why use the smart connector, I think it’s a great idea. I have a 12” iPad Pro with the Logitech Smart Keyboard. it’s actually a great keyboard (better than my MacBook Pro’s keyboard!) It connects automatically, it’s backlit, and I never have to charge it. From an environmental perspective, there’s not an additional Li battery floating around, either.
