Apple's iPad is the most popular portable computer, outselling HP, Lenovo, Dell, others
During Apple's fall event, Apple touted over 400 million iPads sold. More impressively, with that number of sales in a year, Apple is calling iPad the world's most popular mobile computer.
Annual sales of the iPad were 44.2 million, which were compared against notebook sales from HP, Lenovo, Asus, Acer, Dell, and others, the highest of which was HP which moved 36.9 million. That means Apple's tablets outsold every other manufacturer's notebook sales, making the iPad the most popular computer on the market.
The news preceded Apple's announcement of the latest iPad Pros that finally ditched the Home button and Touch ID for Face ID amongst other improvements.

Another thing "Mac diehards" need to bear in mind is that if that had been Apple notebooks versus other companies' notebooks, the Apple results would have been a lot different. Even assuming 2/3rds of all Mac sales are notebooks, that would probably be a total of 12M units annually. The iPad is a way bigger success than most people realise, and the message Apple hammered home about how the iPad Pros are faster than most PC notebooks released over the last year will really make an impact on mainstream consumers who hear that message.
That fact alone was a warning shot across Intel's bow -- Apple's chips have caught up to your low end, and it's just a matter of time before we start seeing Apple's chips in lower-end Macs.
