I’ve only used Apple Pay to purchase something online once... but I’ve been reimbursed for things many times.
Usually, the money sits in the Apple Pay account for weeks before I transfer it to my checking account. Apple probably makes money on the money sitting there, just like the banks do with the money in checking. They can loan it out or have it in Treasuries...
