Fucking idiots and crybabies on parade.

    2013 — iPad Air, 64G, WiFi – $699; 128G, WiFi – $799
    2014 — iPad Air 2, 64G, WiFi – $599; 128G, WiFi – $699
    2019 — iPad Air, 64G, WiFi –$499; 256G, WiFi – $649

This without even chronicling the added features with each new version.

You can spend more or less to balance screen size against features. If you're too stupid or lazy to grok the pricing and features, get a Surface, ream your rectum and pull your collective heads out of your asses.

Like the new tablet line up; new Mini, 9.7” and new 10.5”.  Then the Pro models. Why bother though with 64 gb as the entry level on any model? I know, marketing and profit margins.
There's also the fact that some people will be using iCloud and no computer, and 64G leaves a fair amount of room and keeps the price low. A LOT of people will buy the 256G and never come close to using it all. Maybe you should be asking why no 128G.
Probably due to profit margins? This new iPad line up could make more sense once we learn more about iOS 13. The hardware and software do compliment each other.

HAHAHA. I knew it. Of course they did not update the low end iPad with a compelling offering. Nope. Just invented a new price point to gouge people even more.
This is the same Price as the original Ipad air 2 from 2014 $499.00 USD?

Back then the 16gb was the entry level, not 64GB as it is today. This new Air has the True Tone and P3 wide color gamut like the Pro model and also goes up in size from 9.7 to 10.5? This is a considerable upgrade from the previous Air 2, and again at the same price as it was nearly 5 years ago...

No RAM mention so it remain the same as the 9.7” budget aka education model at 2 GB!  Ugh!
Not possible to have only 2GB RAM.  The lowest level A12 SoC is the one in the iPhone XR and that processor has 3GB RAM.  So at minimum it would have that, possibly 4GB RAM.

True to an extent but at least we get the A12 processor which is almost a few items that if making along  term buy.    A12 or better should be a check off point for anybody buying an iOS device: that simply due to the neural engine.   It still looks like Apple made some odd decisions here such as no USB-C, overall though it does have a nice feature set.

The big question is wil ripoff pricing remain in effect for the 256 GB model????

Well isn’t that what complaint about 64gb is all about?   By the way the cost delta between 64GB and 128GB is trivial for this class of device.

You hit upon very important points here!    I fully expect A12 to become Apples baseline processor for future iOS and app development.  This mainly due to Neural Engine.  The only really stupid move here beyond the 64 GB problem is the lack of USB-C.  This new iPad is otherwise a decent configuration.

Now what is really interesting here here is the hardware we will see in the next Pro models.   A rather powerful Air leaves Apple lots of room to advance the Pro machines.  We might even see the debut of a laptop class processor in the next Pro models.

In any event im hoping that this new Air is a sign that Apple is pulling their greed level back a bit.  This iPad is still expensive to some extent but not excessively so, more like we would traditionally expect from Apple.

When I first read this, I was afraid they discontinued the 9.7” iPad. Whew! That would have been a bad move.

these are actually good buys. That is, the 10.5” model is. The Mini is too expensive. I assume that adding support for the Pencil 2 would have raised the price. That’s too bad.

You mean the $329 offering? You’re honestly bitching about there being cheap, medium, and top level tiers?

    Issues.

That's because they are cheap, almost 200$ more for a "budget" model that came out two years ago. People are brainwashed by apples marketing it's pathetic!  I got a Moto g7 and it runs just as well as the overpriced iPhone zr

So the iPad lineup gets confusing again. Why the need for iPad and iPad Air? Just so they can fill a price point at $499? And why aren’t they moving all iPads to Pencil 2 support? And the new mini starts at $399 while the bigger iPad is $329. So confusing.
Second-gen Pencil requires more expensive hardware to implement, raising the price. This is a less expensive, mid-tier offering. If you require the more advanced features, buy the top-tier. If you don’t, buy this. If you don’t require it at all get the cheap entry-level model.

Only the most dedicated of haters could be mad or upset about three price tiers (Apple’s familiar Good, Better, Best).

Hey nice, a another price increase for a new model, apple gets moremgreedy every year😂
Nonsense. This is the same price as iPad launched for, 499. Now it does more. Don’t need pencil support? Buy the entry-level for $329, which is cheap. How is that greedy? They gave you more options! You people and your entitlement.

Apple didn’t even need a keynote for the new iPads.

They’re getting a ridiculous amount of free promotion from virtually every tech (and many non-tech) website out there. Some of them even wondering why there was no keynote.

Wrong. Still here on the Pro model, the only place it’s even existed. Has never been on the Air or entry-level iPad.

No, what’s pathetic is people who fail to understand differing product pricing tiers. Good, Better, Best, is a tried and true product offering. This iPad costs the exact same as the original iPad, almost ten years later. Yet still you whine. This iPad is $300 less than the Pro model, yet still you whine. And there is a very affordable $329 entry-level model...yet still you whine.

Sounds like you have issues accepting reality.

Your iphone knockoff is junk. Great for people who don’t value privacy, security, or re-sale value.

I can understand why Apple would make Pencil 2 a Pro-level feature but not 4 speakers.  Overall, the new iPad Air is a nice device though I wish it did have quad-speakers as I don't personally see that as being a pro feature.  I'm still gonna purchase it because this is all the iPad that I truly need.

The entire iPad line from the $329 model right up to the $999 model now has Pencil support.

Confusing what? The new Mini has A12, the iPad A10...

Why Pencil 2? Does any Touch ID model offer wireless charging? What is wrong with Pencil 1? It is a great and inexpensive solution thanks to Lightning charging.

Apple is the most successful tablet maker in the world. It shouldn't be surprising that they have several different options.

It especially makes sense given that people base their choice primarily on size. Most options are medium size, as expected. And for the relatively few that want an iPad mini they have to pay a bit extra for one model since it's not worth it to make both a regular and pro model mini.

Also, the way I found out about the iPad Mini was via the pic Tim posted on twitter, which I thought was pretty cool.
