I'm not sure if I should cringe or laugh... If you can't beat 'em... copy (wait, no, what?)
Copy what? something that doesn't exist.
A: "Apple will have an ugly square camera bump." B: "Apple lost it, it's so ugly."
A: "Google will copy a square camera bump like Apple." B: "Copy what? Something that doesn't exist."
I love how double standard our life is.
How do you know who copied who? Neither phone is out yet. And rumor is the iPhone will have a night shot feature like Google. So are you OK with Apple copying? All these copying claims are getting old. Companies always use successful features from other companies. To think that Apple is the only one that can innovate or that others are always copying Apple is beyond ridiculous.
Apple is the only one inventing.
Copying the iPhone/iPad/Mac/AirPods design and then slapping a throwaway feature(that will lose support next year) isn't innovation. Only iKnockoff users claim specs are innovative while holding their knockoffs in their hands.
Have you considered how many of the rumoured iPhone 2019 features are already present on other phones?
As for Apple being the only one inventing, that is demonstrably false.
Huawei... /looks at iPhone 11 renders /looks at Pixel 4 leaks {shakes head slowly}
You're honestly touting that knockoff's ability for design? "Are you sure about that?" Some of their greatest hits:
I think you've exhausted that line now. Why not take a pop at something else?
Dual Video? Dual and Tri Cameras? Square Camera Array? Fast Charging? Reverse Charging (wired and wireless)? Desktop Mode? Aperture Mode? Portrait Mode? Dual Frequency GPS? Night Mode? AIIS? 3D Live Small Object Modelling? Bone Voice ID? Periscope Zoom? x3 and x5 Optical Zoom? X50 Digital Zoom? Gradient Finishing? Graphene Film Cooling? Micro Capsule Cooling? Vapour Chamber Cooling? 5G modem? Cat 21 modem? World's Fastest Mobile Wi-Fi Chipset? Etc.
Copying the iPhone/iPad/Mac/AirPods design and then slapping a throwaway feature(that will lose support next year) isn't innovation. Only iKnockoff users claim specs are innovative while holding their knockoffs in their hands.
Perhaps you should consider expanding your world. There is a lot of cool stuff out there that isn't Apple.

Knockoff, you say?
I think not.
No it isn't a knockoff at all.....
I'm sure it doesn't run android either....
Apple wasn't first with the notch. It may surprise you but it is true.
Notches are design compromises to maximise screen to body ratio. Nothing more. Nobody would voluntarily slap a notch into a screen for design reasons.
The more you try to get into a notch, the wider it gets. That's why we see varying widths on notches.
2018 was arguably the year of the notch.
2019 is more balanced with hole punches, notches, sliding screens and pop up cameras. They all seek to achieve the same goals.
Which solution you choose will depend on your needs and preferences.
That has nothing to do with knockoffs and if you think it does, then this year's iPhone could be the biggest knock-off ever released.
Can't you see what you are saying makes no sense?
iPhone 2019 might get a tri-camera. Like the one released on the P20 Pro - to critical acclaim - welloverayearago.

The reason Apple gets better over time is because competition drives innovation. You should be happy about that. Otherwise you'd still be using an iPhone 4.

I'm not sure if I should cringe or laugh... If you can't beat 'em... copy (wait, no, what?)
Google is like a year or 2 behind iPhone, but every year it's another iPhone Clone!!! It's getting beyond laughable at this point. I'm not a fan of how it looks on the iPhone pictures. Personally I'd rather they thicken the iphone just enough to have no bump and put a bit larger battery inside. They're already to thin and slippery that I have to put a case on them to bulk it up.

Careful, the iKnockoff users will claim android is original or an "invention"!
It's the notch all over again. It always amazes me how people are more concerned with how their phone looks rather than how it functions. The notch was born out of necessity and actually allowed Apple to make more efficient use of the screen. Similarly, camera and lens systems need a minimum depth to function. You either make the phone thicker or have a bump. Since the public is hyper-obsessed with thickness, the manufacturers are making a bump. Similarly, if you want to zoom or have multiple focal lengths, you either need a bulky and complex zoom lens mechanism or multiple lenses and a corresponding bump to house them.
Besides, everyone puts a case on their phone anyway, so what does it matter?
The embarassing part is the knockoffs copied the notch minus the function. Same will happen here IF Apple really releases this ugly thing.
Really? What were Sharp and Essential Phone copying?
What function was missing in those designs?
Sorry boy, but there have been numerous articles about how Android manufacturers were copying Apple’s notch even thought they didn’t have the sensors to put there, because, you know, looking like an Apple product helps sales, particularly in China.

But you didn't answer the question!
Notches are not an Apple thing as some people like to claim.
What was missing in the the notches of the phones I mentioned?
Out of an entireindustry you are cherry picking (as are those 'numerous articles') an example and trying to pass it off as representative of Android notched phones.
Not only is that false but you know it is false and Android manufacturers have literally gone out of their way to reduce notch sizes and actively and purposely remove components from them to make them smaller (without leaving empty space in them of course). Almost coming full circle with regards to the original idea from Sharp and Essential.
DED even went so far as to make the utterly ridiculous claim that the resulting so called 'teardrop' notch looked like a bunch of 'dead pixels'. He completely ignored the reasons behind the decision and how well that kind of notch has been received by the market. But then again those 'numerous articles' you cite were probably written by DED anyway, right?
I'm not sure if I should cringe or laugh... If you can't beat 'em... copy (wait, no, what?)
Copy what? something that doesn't exist.
Well it does exist, on certain Huawei phones for instance. On the iPhone there are several longtime Apple users here who are saying Apple won't be one of those using a similar camera array. Google surprisingly has confirmed theirs.
From another Apple fan site:
"The strategy is quite revealing for a phone that isn’t usually announced until early October. However, it brilliantly allows Google to control the narrative of what its next device looks like rather than face a torrent of renders in the coming months. This is in sharp contrast to the near constant leaks that plagued the last two Made by Google phones.
Of course, there are still many unknowns about the Pixel 4. Google did not release what the front of the phone looks like. The lack of a fingerprint sensor nearly confirms the use of face recognition, with current rumors suggesting a full-width bezel up top to house everything."

Agreed, but I was referring to Apple which I believe is what marsorry was referring to.
