Card readers are probably like tape heads in tape recorders in that alignment is key. There is very little skew allowed and the recessed stripe probably exacerbates any alignment errors. I say this based on the card being read by some readers and not others.
For those Apple Card haters, I'm finding this card to be the easiest to use, both as the card and within Apple Pay, of any card I've ever have. Now if Home Depot would just turn NFC back on and I could use it there--again.
I find it amusing the haters are so compelled to report their disinterest in the card, and a little sad they're equally compelled to pee on somebody else's parade.
Card recipient: 'Hey, I got my Apple Card!'
Hater: Dude! 'Why are you so happy?? I wouldn't be happy, you shouldn't be either. It's just a credit card.'
Card recipient: 'Dude! Why are you harshing my mellow?'
Hater: 'I'm on a roll. I just told my kids there's no Santa Claus and they're not gettin' jack for Christmas. Can't wait for them to talk about Easter! Tough Love rulz!'

Here is the one thing dude, I know for, sure it's not really haters it's more like jealousy, because they are so miserable. Like whatever is making you happy, they are like Shooter McGavin from Happy Gilmore, he's like "I'm NOT" happy that is... :P. So they are just going flip out on you being happy and try and tear that down, you got build up that IGNORE THEM ability. HELPS!!
Actually, having opened quite a few credit card envelopes in my life, dealing with blobs of glue, peeling off stickers, calling a 1-800 number, getting sold collateral stuff while they’re activating the card, etc., this one was a pleasure to open/activate. Felt a teeny bit like dealing with the iPod packaging when it first came out. Nice feeling!
Little things, perhaps. But that’s what differentiates Apple. Some people appreciate it, others don’t.
As an aside, given that I’ll be traveling abroad next week, I wanted to put a ‘travel notice’ on it. Had to call the card’s 1-800 number to do so, it was not something I could do online. That was a tad surprising.
It’s a joke of a credit card. Lousy rates and the features aren’t that great. Look at that...you had to make a phone call to get any service requests done. LOL. Most people have the cards they need and don’t need another.
Except it's not just a normal credit card. A computer is a computer right? A smartphone is a smartphone right?
Your comment makes no sense. It IS a credit card regardless of how it looks or functions. You're using it to purchase something now and pay for it later.

And nobody ever looks at anything new, correct? I have never had to call Apple or Barclays about this card, I contact both via messaging. Apple Pay is more secure than any credit card. I only use the physical card when conservative companies refuse to come into the 20th century (yes, I know it's the 21st but many are still in the 19th). As for lousy rates, what's wrong with 12.9% without any penalties? Maybe it's time for you to get out of the magic kingdom and back into reality.
One thing that I don't think has gotten any attention is the ability to quickly contact Goldman Sachs to Report an Issue. I have a double charge but it's still pending. I still reported this through the Apple Card transaction on my iPhone and it sends a message to Apple. The initial reply was to put me in contact with Goldman Sachs. The interesting thing is Messages shows the conversation in gray, not blue or green. It took about a minute for GS to respond and a half minute each time I chatted with them but this is so much faster than waiting on hold on the telephone and I have a documented conversation (see below).

me:
I was charged twice for this transaction for $83.04 on August 16, 2019 at 7:33 AM.
It's still pending. I talked to cashier and she said that isn't supposed to happen. Another charge at same store today, 6/17, is only showing one charge.
Apple:
I can help with that. Let me connect you with an Apple Card Specialist at Goldman Sachs.
Hello, I'll be happy to assist you with that.
me:
Thank you
I’ve used Apple Pay at (this store) 3 times and the middle charge was the one that double charged. Do I wait until it’s not pending to worry about it?
Apple:
You're more than welcome. I do see that the transaction is still pending. It takes a few days for the transaction to post. If the transaction post contact us back and we can dispute it for you.
me:
Thank you.
Are you an amateur? You called GS about a PENDING transaction?

What's wrong with that? If I see a pending transaction for something I didn't purchase, you bet I'm going to call them. Why wait for it to actually hit before addressing it?
Is the procedure for migrating the Apple Card to a new phone as simple as adding it it? I know when I've migrated by Wallet previously, sometimes I've had to reenter all the card details.
FYI, not all cards have the printed instruction to tap to activate. Mine instruction were to open the Wallet app; then I had to find the “Activate card” button, tap it, and then it told me to tap the envelope, which then brought up the big blue Activate button.
Trying to tap first did not work. Not sure why they changed the protocol.

What do you expect a bank to do with a pending transaction? They're going to tell you to wait until it posts, exactly what the example above showed. Sure, they can flag the transaction, but the action the bank would take, if any, would be the same as if you waited until it posted. I've had many instances of places (gas stations, hotels, etc) that had unusual pending amounts, but in each time, the posted amount cleared exactly the amount that it should have.

Well, a troll's a troll, right? That accounts for all those comments.
