The article states “The Mac must have an Intel Skylake processor, or better. And it has to have USB-C, which must be built-in to the Mac, it can't be via an adapter.” which simply isn’t true. Perhaps, if you can’t make a wireless connection, that might be true...I wouldn’t know as I wirelessly hooked my 2015 iMac (which only has Thunderbolt 2 and USB3) to my iPad Pro2 without any drama at all.
It works brilliantly as both a second screen in Lightroom and my DAW (Presonus Studio One 4.5). The latter even allows me to move the faders/meters off to the iPad giving me all of the 5K main screen for channel editing. Haven’t tried it with Davinci Resolve yet but hoping that will work too.
When I’m working at home (small desk) doing some minor tweaking rather than at the studio (BIG desk with 3 huge monitors) it’s nice to perch the iPad next to the mouse pad and have not only a second screen but the use of the Apple Pencil too. Not everyone will find a use case for this new functionality but A LOT of creative artists in many fields will and Apple is to be congratulated for getting this working so well.
