Mine updated pretty quickly - I connected with the phone, put them in the case on a wireless charge pad, closed the lid. Check for updates and after a short while they updated.
Same here. Ik looked, still on 585, closed lit and iPhone, checked back 5 minutes later, and voila.
These need a price drop. Even the much better Beats pro buds are selling for 200...
When you have something that is pretty much on back order every where you go, you can price it however you want. As a consumer I hate that. As a share holder, I love it.
I found them in settings>general>about now but they won’t update automatically in the last hour.
I understand they should be inside the case. Should the lid be open or closed? What triggers the update? Phone locked or unlocked? Any connection to power via lightning?
=> anyone who figured it out?

I had both the PowerBeats Pro and now the AirPods Pro, I sent the PBP back as they protruded more out of the ear and the hooks were annoying for me, the sound was not as 'warm' as the AirPods Pro, good lower punchy bass and spacial treble though but at the expense of having to push the silicon tips tight in the ear.
The killer blow for me was the wind noise on the PBP when running, it drowned out the music. With the AirPods Pro the noise cancellation does a great job and you can forget the sound of the wind but still hear things around you.
The case on the PBP is huge and wired so it's for a different use-case, probably suited best for indoor gyms/activities.
In terms of cost, the Sony's and Sennheisers are no cheaper, so the AirPods Pro are quite well priced IMHO.
I'm in the exact same boat. I got the PBP in hopes they would be a better running headphone than AirPods which let way too much air & wind noise in and I had to really play music loud to hear them. But the PBP weren't much better even with the in-ear plugs, tons of wind noise leaking in made it difficult to hear music while running. Yes they were a little more secure on the ear, but I never really had a problem with the AirPods in that respect. Unfortunately I held on to the PBP too long and never returned them. Well the AirPods pro are easily my running headphones now. Noise cancellation completely eliminates all wind noise, they stay securely in my ear and they sound great without having to crank the volume to hear music. Hands down the best in-ear headphones I've used, absolutely love them.
I’m on the earlier firmware - any tips to force an update? I’ve forgot and repaired, while on wifi and case plugged into charge.
I had to contact support for a weird charging issue. They actually told me to update the firmware. These are the instructions to force an update.
They actually updated very quickly/instantly. I think the 30 minute window is just a buffer to give the AirPods a chance to pull the firmware and update without interruptions.
