Listening to Nilay Patel this morning on CNBC moaning and whining about what a trivial move this is for Apple (and US manufacturing) made me want to throw up...
That guy is transparently pathetic. It pains me that Daringfireball's Gruber is so eager to buddy up to him and give him a voice on The Talk Show
Gruber:
Appearing alongside Trump at an Apple facility in a staged photo-op is implicit support for Trump and his re-election.
This wasn’t a promotion for the Mac Pro or its assembly plant. It was a promotion for Trump. This video makes it look like Trump’s trade policies have been good for Apple and that Tim Cook supports Trump […]
A low moment in Apple’s proud history, and a sadly iconic moment for Tim Cook. I hope avoiding those tariffs is worth it.
Then when Trump said he was there to support the grand-opening of the new Apple facility (tweeting it too) Mr Cook standing next to him declined to correct him. That plant has been operating since 2013. It does make Apple look complicit in a bit of deceit.
EDIT; An AI article today reminded me that it is not even an Apple-owned facility. The 6-year old factory belongs to Flex (Flextronics) who is contracted to assemble those Mac's.

Because there’s no point?
