Apple Pro Display XDR 'game changer' for 'Jumanji' studio

I think the point is that even though this XDR display is being sold for less than a reference monitor, it is still grossly overpriced.  An example of this is the stand that is not even included in the box with the display.  The display itself could probably be reduced in price by at least a few hundred dollars, and Apple would still be able to make a healthy profit from it.

Apple is not selling things based on the included technology, they are selling things at prices that they think customers would be willing to pay, even if it is grossly overpriced.  Who wouldn't mind spending at least a few hundred (or maybe a few thousand) dollars less on something, especially if there is no reduction in quality or performance?  Apple customers need to wake up to the reality that they are being fleeced, there is really no reason to rip us off like this.  The new Mac Pro may be a good machine, and the XDR display may be a good display, but selling them for $52,000?  Apple is playing everyone for stupid, and it needs to stop

I do appreciate Apple and that they want to make state-of-the-art technology available to the masses, but they need to do it at reasonable prices, and they need to stop violating their customers by selling this monitor and this stand separately, when they could just as easily sell them together and give customers at least somewhat of a bargain.  This goes for the average Joe on the street, as well as production studios.  Everyone can benefit from saving money
Complete nonsense. It’s not overpriced, and no one is being “fleeced”. Very few will opt to build out the $52k MP BTO, so why you even mention it is telling. Do you complained at max build out workstations from HP? Nope. Just Apple. Durr.

Apple certainly produces mass market tech with reasonable prices. I’m an enterprise software dev and I absolutely love my iMac 5K. If my needs were even less I’d consider a new Mac mini.

You are not being victimized by Apple selling products you don’t need. So say it with me: “I am not a victim.”

You said:  “I think the point is that even though this XDR display is being sold for less than a reference monitor, it is still grossly overpriced.”

That is a nonsensical assertion. Since the Apple display is less costly and more capable than competing reference monitors, it is clearly an excellent value.
Yeah I think this is another guy confusing “I can’t afford it” with “but it’s overpriced!” Two different concepts.

Waiting for haters like sjworld to chime (whine) in and tell us all why the XDR (and stand) is an overpriced POS.

No amount of real-world validations by actual pros will convince these wannabes that this will implode the $40k reference monitor industry.
You haven’t been reading properly. I am more than happy with the price of the monitor. The stand is still an overpriced POS though.
What an ignorant thing to say. Firstly, because we know you don’t have one and haven’t used it. Secondly, because as has been explained to you numerous times, there are much crappier monitor mounts in the hundreds-range. I have two of them. They wobble and aren’t excellent. The Apple offering is, by all youtube reviewer accounts, excellent. That’s worth a premium. And when buying a $5k monitor that outperforms $35k competing monitors, it’s rather insignificant.

But you keep getting mad at something you’ll never even need let alone purchase. This is...unusual behavior.
I’m not mad. But it looks like you are at my opinion. Overpriced stand. Nothing else.

I’d have thought people could see that at $6k for the monitor with stand it's an amazing deal compared to what the competition is offering, but instead of people seeing how Apple is making it less expensive to get the monitor without the stand if they already have a VESA mount they are complaining about having to buy the stand. They aren't the only one that doesn't include a stand. B&H sells a 31" monitor for $8K that doesn't include a stand.

What's even more odd is saying that the stand is a piece of shit. Beside them surely not using it to make such a claim about the complex mechanics to make the stand work as well as its been demoed, if it really was that badly designed then then any buyer of the XDR should be elated that they can save $1k over having to buy the monitor with either a built-in or included stand.

I wish I had the cash to "kinda settle" for a new Mac Pro. I just upgraded my trashcan Mac Pro to max out with 64 GB of fast memory and 2 TB of flash. That will have to do for now. Maybe I'll hit the lottery or something.
You paid about the same for that "goth tube" Mac Pro back SEVEN years ago, and its apparently still serving you well. I'm not sure why people claim they need to "hit the lottery" for a product that is (in real dollars) cheaper now than when you bought your last Mac Pro, and has extraordinary amounts of value over those models baked in. As AI has pointed out more than a few times, most of the cost of the over-$5K models is RAM costs or "extras" outside the unit itself.

The base Mac Pro costs $5K (you're not required to buy the XDR display unless that's what you really need for your work), which seems like a pittance for pro-level work given how freakin' expansion-friendly this thing is. Assuming you don't need 384GB of RAM or the like, you can kit out a real beast of a machine and have enough left over to buy a perfectly great pair of 4K monitors for well under $10K -- again a quite reasonable price for what you're getting and how long you'll be able to continue using it.

I bought the 2013 MP in 2014 for $4299. That is about $4750 in 2020 dollars. The starting price for the 2019 MP is $6000 not $5000. Pretty significant difference of $1250. I’m not claiming the 2019 MP is overpriced. Just out of my price range. Two different things.

I considered the 2013 MP expensive when I bought it in 2014. It was the mid-range model. But the price was ultimately worth it because I’ve used it since 2014 and will continue to use it for at least another year. I won’t be replacing it with the 2019 MP because I can’t justify the price for my workflow. We’ll see what 2021 brings and my decision might change.
