I'd like to see them go. So I'd vote for an emphatic NO to having posts viewable.

The one thing i like about post counts is that if I don't recognize a name (There are like 3000 of them it happens) I can see if someone flaming the crap out me deserves to be heard, or not.

It does not matter one bit to me if mine is shown or not though. I've had mine zapped 2, 3 times. I never cared after the first time realy.

here's one, bring back silicon alley, but find a way for posts in that forum not to register to total post count.

    optional sounds nice

otherwise let's just keep them, most other forums do, it's part of this little cult of internet community, it just feels geekier that way.

Yes. That way I know if it's a newbie so I can go gently on them for making a stupid comment or suggestion. If it's dumb and they've been here a while, the gloves come off.

    Post count Aye.

Let's also post our red blood cell counts too.

Do you have an IQ bot.. that would be handy as well.

Off until I get to, oh, 300.

    Then on.

Then off again when I get to, let's say, 1000.

    Not on again after that.

So, basically, only on while I'm between 299 and 1000; in that range, the count says, "hey, I've been here a bit, but I'm not crazy!"

Hey, what about a word count (or some such)? Is that possible? I've seen a lot of posts that were just: or or , etc.. I realize number of words isn't directly correlated to good content, but it's a better measure than number of posts, right?
