This is well and great and all, but I think a more effective approach would be to go after GOOGLE. Google allows free and easy voip accounts for spam calls & stuff like this propagate. Not only that Google has also been known to fund by way of selling adds, to very questionable/shifty orgs and scammers etc. Tsk Tsk. Don't even get me started on the largest copyright violator of the world Youtube. So in short. Don't use google, use Apple! Happy New Year.
So most these scam callers come from outside the US, can not tell you how many Indian or Chinese scam calls I get. Some of these scammers even leave messages I better call back or they will call the police.
US laws have no jurisdiction over other counties.
Well, that’s where the anti-spoofing and blocking technology comes in. If you can’t stop those calls then block them.
Explain how a US company can tell if an overseas call is being spoofed or not especially if the call is going over an IP channel. The only way this works is if everyone company providing IP phones or services all implement the same systems to detect if call is being spoofed.
I'll believe it when I see it. There have been laws against spam for years, and the "do not call" list has been around for even longer. But the scammers ignore these laws because they aren't actually enforced. This is going to be more of the same.
When I see news reports about telemarketing firms being shut down and their officers going to jail, then I'll be happy.
Since all the technology is already in the works, I think the most important impact of this law is that it requires carriers to offer such blocking for free.
