I wasn’t happy with the sound quality of the AirPod Pros I got for Christmas. In addition, they gave me a severe allergic reaction which made the insides of my ears itchy throughout the holidays which was awful!

I felt the same way as you when I got my pro's for Christmas. I thought the bass was very thin and highs piercing and fatiguing at higher volumes. I played with different tips and also reset them and re-paired them to my 11 Pro Max. After the reset they initially sounded better but quickly went back to how they were..thin with not very much bass and the almost piercing highs. I told Santa ( my GF B) ) that I thought something wasn't right with them, but maybe this is how the are supposed to sound and if that is the case I wasn't liking it.  I had read and watched reviews saying that the sound quality was not overly bass heavy and very balanced, but I just wasn't hearing that..

Fast forward to last Monday 01/06 I was using them at work and they would go from sounding ok on one song and then as I described on the next. So I decided to do the apple seal test on the phone to see if that may be why there is a fluctuation in sound. At this point I had only done the test initially on Christmas morning and they passed. I was using a small on the left and a medium on the right ear as this is what I had done with other IEM over the years because my ear canals aren't quite the same size.

So I did the test and it failed.. telling me to adjust or use another tip.  I tried 4 more times at work and still all failed results. I went home later and tried all of the provided tips and still fail, fail, fail..  I made a genius appointment that evening to get some to look at them.

At the Apple store they had me pair a test pair they brought with my phone and BOOM the sound was night and day different. Clear, crisp with a very nice bass response, but not overpowering. I tried my Christmas pair with a test iPhone they provided and the tech saw the fit test fail multiple times on this phone as well as the sound still being weak in bass and way too harsh with the highs..

So they swapped my original pair out with a new set and I couldn't be happier! It's a shame about the allergic reaction because I believe you may have a faulty pair and a swap out may have fixed your sound quality issue.
