Meryl Streep narrating animated Earth Day special for Apple TV+

The multi-award-winning Meryl Streep will be the narrator for an animated version of "Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth," which airs exclusively on Apple TV+ on April 17. It marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day the following week.

Apple has announced that Oscar, AFI and British Academy (BAFTA) award-winning actor Meryl Streep is to narrate an animated short film for Earth Day. Premiering on Apple TV+ on April 17, "Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth" is a poignant film based on the bestselling book by Oliver Jeffers.

"Here We Are" follows a seven-year-old (voiced by Jacob Tremblay) who, during Earth Day, is taught about the wonders of the world. Ruth Negga and Chris O'Dowd star as voices of the parents in this 36-minute film.

Award-winning writers Philip Hunt and "Ghostwriter" scriptwriter Luke Methany adapted the book for UK-based Studio AKA. Chiefly known for its range of animated commercials, Studio AKA has previously produced series for the BBC's preschool channel CBeebies. It also won a BAFTA award in 2009 for "Lost and Found," another animated short based on the work of Oliver Jeffers.

"Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth" will be released on Apple TV+ on Friday, April 17, 2020, in time for the fiftieth anniversary Earth Day the following Wednesday.

The show follows other animated specials and series on Apple TV+, including "Snoopy in Space," and the forthcoming "Central Park."

Apple has previously marked Earth Day with Apple Watch activity challenges and in its Shot on iPhone campaign.
