Closing Threads...

Suggestion:

If a thread is closed, the mod or admin who closes it should write a last post, so that you would knew WHO closed it. Normally it happens like that.

I'm writing that because it didn't happened <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002267"; target="_blank">here.

I already wrote an E-Mail to the mods of FH, but I would like that it gets standard. --> (If a thread is closed, the mod or admin who closes it should write a last post, so that you would knew WHO closed it. Normally it happens like that.)

UPDATE : Jonathan edited that thread and added that:

[quote] osmeone requested a reason for the locking.

nice, huh ? I still don't know who locked that thread !

Yes, and there was no reason to close that thread. It was a joke.

But now that they have as many mods as active users, they have to have something to do with themselves.

From what I've seen, the mods usually give at least a little something to why they close the threads, at least Amorph, Jonathan, Belle, Jamie AFAICR. Yeah, I've seen the pic you posted before, and I agree that whoever closed it should have at least said as much, but... whatever. Thanx for the help in Suggestions BTW... J straightened it out right quick!

HA! Well, this *osmeone* character seems to have an inside track with J, so I think the mystery is solved!

[edit: Can't I spell anything right the first time?]

I think we can assume that Jonathan's edit was an admission that he originally locked the thread.

I think any other FH mod, including myself, would have done the same. This mockup has been posted dozens of times.

Jonathan only replies once to a thread then dismisses it...like he did in mine.

Jonathan is way out of control. AI used to be a place where people were able to post funny and irrelevant stuff. Now it has more moderation that Mac NN forum. Hey members, don't bother posting what you think is a funny picture because King Jon will come by and make the final decision for all of us

Jonathan just stop. Let the members post what they want. If it's a joke just laugh or not. It's not up to you to decide what the members want to post about. If a thread sucks it will fall off the front page. If it's funny it will get replies. But most of all just stop closing threads you don't think have a purpose. WE decide if there's a thread has a purpose. You are not the moderator of good taste or relevance. We are. Think long and hard before you close a thread. When in doubt don't close it. Just stop. If you can't manage that then stop moderating and let someone else do it.

I'm sure I'll be banned for this.

Defiant, you're taking this all a bit too personally.

yeah, i understand you didn't know the picture had been around for weeks. by the same token, jonathan didn't really care who posted it. it's not that he doesn't like you, or your posts, just that the image had been done to death.

    don't take it to heart.

(btw, usually a will indicate that someone is not being serious. keep that in mind when reading into the tone of a post)

the only way it will have any effect is if you do it publicly. they publicly close things they "decide" are right or not. if we do it privately, then they will have the ability to ignore you. but if you do it in front of everyone, then people will understand exactly what the mods are doing and will respond in the same way.

i agree w/ phd. if the thread is popular, it will stay. if its shit, then noone will respond and it will go away. if its inappopriate, then close it. but if its locked simply because they decide they dont think its a good thread, then thats bullshit. back off mods. let us keep at least a little of our dignity and be able to post honestly without fear of being edited/locked.
