It took many years, but I'm glad that my local supermarket finally implemented Apple Pay and I can finally check out using my Apple Watch whenever I shop.
There are 9 self checkout machines in my local market, 3 rows of 3 machines, and they have temporarily closed down the middle machine in each row, because of the virus, so that people can keep their distance.
A number of gas stations in my area now also have NFC available at the pump. There’s also a self-serve ice machine in town that accepts ApplePay. Select 10 or 20 pound bag, wave my Apple Watch in front of it and out pops my ice.
I don't think I've ever bought ice in my entire life. I'm just curious what usage somebody would need 10 or 20 pounds of ice for? Is it for putting inside a large cooler and going to the beach or something?

Example? Working people on a hot job site, building your home or office or school. They don't have the nice cool water fountain for a drink of water, or the French door fridge as a place to store their lunch.

That is the primary purpose, at least around here. Also anytime it would be helpful to have large amounts of ice on hand, when your kitchen freezer can't make what you need, such as a party.
So I finally got to use this at Publix today. The manager no less was manning the register. A bit fumbly and he did have to ask one of the head cashiers to assist but it worked. Oddly one side of the card reader, the right side , is for Google Pay and the other is for Apple Pay.
