    I filled mine out online.

Stupid questions as usual.  Asking skin color and ancestry is anti-American.  Makes me want to send them a picture of my white butt cheeks, and let them make a determination.

All they really need is population numbers... (& ages)

Asking if I was fluent in English would have (actually) been useful, but they didn’t ask that.
Let me guess, as a white male you feel they’re trying to get you? You’re being persecuted maybe? Yeah no. Demographic stats are just useful to have and know.

Yeh, and race info is the only thing racists are interested in.

Mass death event? Tell me, how many Americans have died in the past three months from the flu, heart attacks, drug overdoses, murder, cancer, automobile accidents? Why have we, as a society, accepted those deaths as completely normal?
    You haven't.
    • Flu has a vaccine.
    • Heart attacks are treated, and healthy lifestyles are promoted
    • Many drugs that you can overdose on are illegal, and services are  available for drug addicts and the suicidal.
    • Murder is a crime
    • Cancer has screening and treatments available
    • Automobiles are subject the driving laws that aim to minimise accidents.  Causing an accident  will often lead to prosecution.
COVID-19 does not yet have a vaccine, or a reliable cure and moreso than any of the the other things on your list it is highly contagious, and health services are not equipped to deal with the numbers affected if it is allowed to sprerad unchecked.  If health services are overwhelmed then not only will they not be able to deal with COVID-19 patients, then also they may not be able to deal with flu patients, heart attack patients, assault vcictims, cancer patients, and automobile accident patients.

How can you still not get this when this information is so widely available?

Not impressed, because the census as they have been doing it is unconstitutional. The only thing the constitution asks for is how many live at a residence. No matter what they tell you, that is all you have to give. For those of you who say, I don't see what the big deal is, at what point does the gov collecting info on you become a big deal? It's been coming in increments for decades.

You've very obviously not ever looked at the questions the US Census has historically asked., yet want to comment with authority anyway. So here ya' go, this is from the very first one in 1790:

Assistant marshals listed the name of each head of household, and asked the following questions:
-The number of free White males aged under 16 years
     -of 16 years and upward
     -Number of free White females
     -Number of other free persons
     -Number of slaves

Sixty years later in 1850 these were the questions:
    1. Dwelling number of house (in order visited)
    2. Number of family (in order visited)
    3. Name
    4. Age
    5. Sex
    6. Color (This column was to be left blank if a person was White, marked "B" if a person was Black, and marked "M" if a person was Mulatto.)
    7. Profession, occupation, or trade of each person over 15 years of age
    8. Value of real estate owned by person
    9. Place of Birth (If a person was born in the United States (Enter the state they were born in. If the person was born outside of the United States, the enumerator was to enter their native country.)
    10. Was the person married within the last year?
    11. Was the person at school within the last year?
    12. If this person was over 20 years of age, could they not read and write?
    13. Is the person "deaf, dumb, blind, insane, idiotic, pauper, or convict?"

and then there was Schedule No. 2 - Slave Inhabitants

Slaves were listed by owner, not individually. Listed by column number, enumerators recorded the following information:

    1. Name of owner
    2. Number of slave (Each owner's slave was only assigned a number, not a name. Numbering restarted with each new owner)
    3. Age
    4. Sex
    5. Color (This column was to be marked with a "B" if the slave was Black and an "M" if they were Mulatto.)
    6. Listed in the same row as the owner, the number of uncaught escaped slaves in the past year
    7. Listed in the same row as the owner, the number of slaves freed from bondage in the past year
    8. Is the slave "deaf and dumb, blind, insane, or idiotic?"

So 100 years later in 1950 it had become these questions:
-Name of street, avenue or road where the household is located
    -Home or apartment number
    -Serial number of dwelling unit
-Is this house on a farm (or ranch)?
-If no, is this house on a place of three or more acres?
       -Corresponding agriculture questionnaire number
       -Name -Relationship to head
       -Race
       -Sex
-How old was this person on his last birthday?
-Is this person now married, widowed, divorced, separated, or never married? (Enumerators were to enter "Mar" for married, "Wd" for widowed, "D" for divorced, "Sep" for separated, or "Nev" for never married)
-What State or country was the person born in?
-If foreign born, is the person naturalized?

And for persons 14 years of age and over

-What was this person doing most of last week
        - working, keeping house, or something else? (Enumerators were to record "Wk" for working, "H" for keeping house, "U" for unable to work, or "Ot" for other If the person was "keeping house" or "something else"
-did the person do any work at all last week, not counting work around the house? (Including work-for-pay, in his own business, working on a farm or unpaid family work)
If the person answered "no" to question 16, was he looking for work? If the person answered "no" to question 17, even if he didn't work last week, does he have a job or    business? If the person was working, how many hours did he or she work in the last week? What kind of work does the person do? What kind of business or industry is the person in?
-Class of worker the person is. (Enumerators were to mark "P" for private employment, "G" for government employment, "O" for own business, or "NP" for working without pay)

And then there were supplemental questions asked of certain families
-Was the person living in the same house a year ago?
-If no to question 21, was the person living on a farm a year ago?
-If no to question 21, was the person living in the same county a year ago?
    -If no to question 23...
What county (or nearest place) was he living in a year ago?
What state or foreign country was he living in a year ago?
What country were the person's mother and father born in?
What is the highest grade of school that the person has attended?
Did the person finish this grade?
Has the person attended school since February 1st?
For persons 14 years and older
If the person is looking for work, how many weeks has he been looking for work?
Last year, how many weeks did this person not work at all, not counting work around the house?
Last year, how much money did the person earn working as an employee for wages or salary?
Last year, how much money did the person earn working at his own business, professional occupation, or farm?
Last year, how much money did the person receive from interest, dividends, veteran's allowances, pensions, rents, or other income (aside from earnings)?
If this person is the head of the household: last year, how much money did his relatives in this household earn working for wages or salary?
If this person is the head of the household: last year, how much money did the person earn working at his own business, professional occupation, or farm?
If this person is the head of the household: last year, how much money did the person receive from interest, dividends, veteran's allowances, pensions, rents, or other income (aside from earnings)?

    If male:
Did he ever serve in the U.S. Armed Forces during...
         World War II
         World War I
Any other time, including present service
What kind of work does this person do in his job?
What kind or business or industry does this person work in?
Class of worker If ever married, has this person been married before?
If married, widowed, divorced, or separated, how many years since this event occurred?
If female and ever married, how many children has she ever borne, not counting stillbirths?

Then a little task for you @Synickel (and for @seanismorris ; @GeorgeBMac for that matter)
Compare to this year's census questions which you've presumably seen or soon will, then come back and comment again on whether it's collecting more information than it did 70 years ago.

Hint: No it's NOT getting worse by the decade.

It's not every day that you encounter someone that doesn't believe that Amendments to the Constituion (which includes the Bill of Rights) are worth looking at.

Then you should have been aware of what "the original Constitution" said. Obviously you are NOT familiar with it.
It empowers the Congress to carry out the census in "such manner as they shall by Law direct" (Article I, Section 2).

That's what it still does today.

LOL... Fortunately, it hasn't been a "main thrust" since 1860. If it ever becomes the "main thrust" again we'll know and all worry.

The questions this year are some of the same primary questions from 1950 and every census since.

Questions of race and ethnicity have value only to racists -- and, when they become the main thrust, what does that tell us?

LOL... Fortunately, it hasn't been a "main thrust" since 1860. If it ever becomes the "main thrust" again we'll know and all worry.

The questions this year are some of the same primary questions from 1950 and every census since.

Sorry, but this bunch of racists made race and ethnicity the main thrust of census.   And, I have no problem "dividing" myself from those racists.

       -Name
       -Race
       -Sex
-If foreign born, is the person naturalized?

Then there are supplemental questions asked of some, just as there are supplemental questions that will be asked of some this year. (see bottom of comment below for explanation)

Have you not been a resident of the US long enough to have ever taken part is a census before now? I'm thinking not.

So I'll help you out with a link to previous years' questions. Then come back and talk about "only racists ask about race" even when it was Democrat-controlled congresses approving the questions, and Democratic Presidents in the Oval Office. Under Obama for instance the 2010 census compelled every American to answer these two questions among the total of 10 asked of everyone:
    1. Is Person 1 of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin?
    2. What is Person 1's race?
Democrat=Racist? We already know you believe the Republicans are. and according to your thought process so would be Democrats for the same reason.
    https://www.census.gov/history/www/through_the_decades/index_of_questions/2010.html

This year as in the last census those "value" questions you mention are contained in the long-form questionnaire are now asked by the annual American Community Survey.
This may come as a shock to you that's there's evil Democrats hiding behind the rocks along with those evil Republicans you so often refer to....
...Or just maybe they aren't all evil in the first place. You just don't know any better than to plant fears and doubts in a time of emergency. Patience Grasshopper. You'll have ample time to do that after the current health crisis is dealt with.

IMO instead, whether you realize it or not, George B Mac and Donald Trump are becoming two sides of the same coin.

    Both are divisive? Check
Both blaming those "other guys" for all our ills? Check
Ignoring any facts that don't support your viewpoints? Check
Accept no responsibility on the part of "your side"? Check
When all else fails use name-calling or other insults, dismiss out of hand anyone disagreeing with you? Check
Refuse to consider any arguments put forth by anyone questioning your stance, brush 'em off? Check

You might consider being a bit less divisive unless you enjoy being the mirror image of how you view the current administration, just spewing talk of "us vs them" from the other side of your mouth than theirs. It all results in the same thing and you become no better than the guy you hate.

There's people here who have questions about the direction of our country under the current administration. The majority of us are middle ground IMO. Independent as it were, neither solidly Republican or Democrat. You are not doing your cause any favors by reminding us that there is an extremist fringe on the other side, willing to say and do anything to get their way. FUD on parade.

Questioning some statement of yours is not being "Trumpian" or a right-wing extremist.  That you continually call me and others that is evidence of just how completely and blindingly hate-filled you present yourself as being. You seem to have zero tolerance for anyone not 100% in agreement with you, stubbornly unwilling to consider any viewpoint other than your own. As long as the current President is replaced and the Congressional balance swings the ends justify the means. Remind you of anyone else?

Sorry, but this bunch of racists made race and ethnicity the main thrust of census.   And, I have no problem "dividing" myself from those racists.
Reread the last four paragraphs. Then think about 'em.
    I'm out.

The corrupt, lying, extremists are running the country.  I have no trouble at all "dividing" myself from those fruitcakes.
