When you purchase a (PRODUCT)RED iPhone SE, Apple will contribute directly to the COVID-19 relief fund.

In its continued efforts to help fight against the global pandemic, any (PRODUCT)RED purchase made on Apple's website will directly contribute to the Global COVID-19 Relief Fund, including the new iPhone SE.

AppleInsider spotted the change on Wednesday morning, but it is unknown when the rest of the website changed. Apple quietly updated their website to show the change, and contributions will continue until at least September 30.

This is in addition to all of Apple's other efforts in the fight against coronavirus. So far Apple is involved in many funds and has donated millions to local and global efforts. They have even joined with the Emerson Collective to create the America's Food Fund.

Apple has donated over 20 million masks to US health facilities and are creating their own designed face shields as well. Additionally, an event coming soon, called One World: Together at Home will air on April 18, and Apple has donated $10 million in funding.

Hmm, AIDS didn’t go anywhere. Can’t Apple donate to both?

Yeah just wondering that. Not criticizing the efforts but are Product RED purchases going to keep the AIDS funding as well or resume in September? Also, I heard on Twitter that 100% of revenue from the Product RED SE will go to COVID-19 efforts. Is that true? If so, that’s awesome! Twitter is notorious for wrong information though so it’s good to know.

My understanding is that AIDS is effectively suppressed (controlled) with current medication.  The problem is getting it to those in need, especially in developing countries.  There’s no vaccine, but it’s no longer a priority in R&D.

COVID-19 on the other hand is still kicking our ass.  Though there has been significant progress in slowing the spread.  Globally, I think many of the numbers are false.  They might not be able to determine the cause of death... have the resources to do so.

It's good to see that the red products are supporting other causes besides just concentrating on one thing and ignoring everything else.

For 13 years, Apple have raised more than $220 million in funding for HIV/AIDS programs. While every penny going to the program is appreciated, in the short term, support for costs of COVID-19 need a little love too.

I'm hesitating. I do like the idea behind product-red. Where will my donation go? Is it a US Covid-19 fund or is it a worldwide one? Will initiatives in my country or Europe be supported or is it strictly / mostly local to the US? When it will be strictly / mostly local to the US I have serious doubts if my country / Europe / rest of the world will really benefit from it due to the protective (and business) nature of potus. I'd like Apple to donate to Covid-19 funds but only if the entire world benefits. Apple could be more explicit in their explanation as that linked page refers to 'Global Fund’s COVID‑19 Response' only once while the remainder of the page only explains about HIV.

I did find this page: https://www.theglobalfund.org/en/covid-19 which explains about helping the most vulnerable countries to battle covid-19. Not sure if that fund is the one Apple is refering to? If it is, I guess I'll get myself a red iPhone before September 30th.
