Apple is still anticipated to launch a new model of AirPods in the near future, with the latest version now apparently prepared and ready for its official unveiling, an event that could take place in May.

Apple is believed to be working on new models of AirPods, with rumors pointing to new models including the "AirPods Pro Lite" and the "AirPods X Generation," along with long-rumored over-ear headphones. While there were expectations for a March launch, seemingly affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it is suggested Apple is very close to making an announcement on a new model soon.

According to a Sunday tweet by Jon Prosser, AirPods "which were supposed to be at the March Event" are now apparently "ready to go." While it is unclear what specific model is being referred to by Prosser, he does add in it will "probably" appear alongside a refreshed MacBook Pro in May.

New AirPods (which were supposed to be at the March Event) are now ready to go.

Probably alongside the MacBook Pro next month.

-- Jon Prosser (@jon_prosser)

Prosser has made a name for himself relating to recent leaks, nailing the new iPhone SE's launch date as well as other rumored details about the smartphone. Given the accuracy track record in the short term, as well as the plausibility of the rumor, it seems quite likely that the information in the tweet is quite true.

The most likely candidate for the launch would be the "AirPods Pro Lite," a variant of the AirPods that would offer some of the features of the AirPods Pro, but at a more wallet-friendly cost. In March, it was suggested mass production for the model would start late in the first quarter of 2020 or early in the second quarter, a window that seems to line up with Prosser's claims.

A bit of rumor overflow here. Are the AirPods X Generation an actual thing? Aren't they just the tin cans?

    $160 AirPods
    $200 AirPods Pro Lite
    $250 AirPods Pro
$400 Tin cans or AirPods X Generation?

Feels like the plain old AirPods need to drop to $130 or possibly even $100 if Apple is going to make a cheaper AirPods Pro model.

Could they make AirPod Pros that don’t cause severe chemical burns/allergic reactions inside my ear after 1-2 hours of use?

It’s possible you have defective ears.  If you would just pull out your phone and ask Bixby to recommend an ointment...

    Who is this for?

Somebody who doesn't want to pay $250 for the AirPods Pro, but wants something a little bit better than the $130 regular AirPods?

I think it's overkill but these are the new iPhones/iPods/Watch products.

    iPhone SE
    iPhone 11
    iPjone 11 Max
    iPhone 11
    iPhone 11 Pro Max

    iPod Shuffle
    iPod Nano
    iPod Classic
    iPod touch

    Apple Watch 40mm
    Apple Watch 44mm

    AirPods
    AirPods Pro Lite
    Airpods Pro
    AirPods X

I guess it's not too crowded. I think if Pro Lite uses the same design as Pro then the product line wouldn't look so fragmented.

I'm incredibly pleased with my AirPods Pro, so I am not planning on upgrading to the next iteration. However, if they release over-the-ear headphones, I'll buy them the moment they are available.

I thought I was the only one with sever ear burns / chemical reaction on both ears in two different locations. Received these as a Easter gift and the sound is amazing but the quality apparently is pure trash as far as sensitively to the inner ear. Definitely needs some sort of cushion to soften the blow. Seems like a law suit IMO, Definitely looking further into this issue.

In the years of their being out, I have never, ever heard of any one having chemical burns from their AirPods.

Already have a Beats, but it is pretty old. Apple's cans will have the H1 chip (or an updated variant), which my old Beats does not. I wanted to upgrade my headphones for a while, so I'm looking forward to what Apple releases.
