Suggestion for GB in vB

I have an idea for GeniusBar.

I often find myself clicking on threads in GB which are already solved. Wouldn't it be possible to have the thread icon () in GB changed to a box with a red cross () and if the thread gets solved, a mod changes it to something like this ()?

so it would be much easier to distinguish between solved and unsolved threads.

what do u think ?

it's seems a good idea, but remember that you cannot consider that a problem is solved unless the people who ask help, try it and suceed.

One member can said : i know the answer : just do this .... and it don't work. In that case the problem is not solved.

In an other way, they may be have differents solutions for the problem.

It's not so simple to know if the problem is really solved.

    doc ?

Of course the member who started the thread would have to come back and say "It worked !" but normally u do that to thank the ones who helped you, no ?

    Yes i expect that.

Perhaps the mods of the genius bar will consider your suggestion. My advice here, is just personal.

i like the idea a lot. not sure we can do it, you'd have to whisper sweet nothin's in Brad's ear, but it'd be cool IMO.

    (and useful to boot!)

I concur. Perhaps Brad could grace this thread with a "Suggestion Accepted" image for a change

Even if we decided to implement something like this, it would be very difficult and require some *serious* hacking of the vB software, if it would even be possible with the current version. I mean I'd have to basically rewrite a whole chunck of the system's software to do it.

I might be better off writing my own BB software from scratch...

    I'll look into it, though. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

For what it's worth, 0x2E is hexadecimal code for a period "."

In vB, isn't it true that you can have little icons (usually emoticons, thumbs up or thumbs, down, etc) with the topic on the list of topics? If so, is it possible to turn this on for just select forums?

Then you could have two little options...though I would prefer a question mark and a check mark (instead of a cross and a check mark.)

simple solution (though not as elegant as a "X" or "?" and a check for answer).....the person who started the thread can also change the title of the thread....so if the person who needed help at GB gets an answer and tries it and it works, they can come back to the thread, thank the human who helped and change the title of the thread to "*****************: SOLVED..thanks"

Registered users cannot change thread titles in vB 2. That operation is only permitted by moderators and custom super users.

They'll be denied just like if people were to start asking to be mods and admins. They can whine all they want. Whining gets you nothing. In fact, whining probably puts you LOWER on the priority list.

    [quote]Originally posted by thuh Freak:
