That includes changes made to Microsoft's digital assistant that repurpose it to become part of the company's broader suite of Microsoft 365 products. In other words, it will no longer be a Siri or Alexa competitor.
This makes sense given the way their software/services are typically used.
No mention of Google Assistant as a competitor?
Not sure if Google Assistant is even relevant anymore?
It is very relevant ... but as this blog hates Google far more than it hates Amazon - a leading seller/promoter of Apple products that don't directly compete with Apple (no one who would consider buying an $750 iPad, $300 HomePod or $150 Apple TV would buy a $60 Kindle tablet, $50 Echo Dot or $35 Fire Stick instead) - it will never acknowledge it.
Remember: this is the same bunch that refused to so much as concede that Google was making a profit off Android until the Oracle trial made it impossible to deny any longer ... and this was with Android having 85% global market share by then.
So knockoffs from Amazon are different from Knockoffs from Android? Amazon is a DIRECT competitor as they sell knockoff iPads with Siri functionality. Amazons iPads are outselling those from Android. Most people buy FREE-$20 buck dots so they don't need a HomePod, same with FireStick. Everyone knows that people buy FireSticks and Rokus BECAUSE of price. What the F***. How can you be this deluisional? Yet you dismiss knockoff iPhones even though they do EXACTLY the same thing Amazon does: undercut Apple.
Google doesn't sell Android. Who gave you that idea?
Fu**ing ridiculous.
Edit: just read your name. You're the guy who posts ridiculous crap and gets destroyed in every thread.
Yes, he likes to start posts with “face it, guys …” or “this is what’s happening guys” then follows up with something like “Apple will never produce its own chips because designing chips is hard and developers would need to rewrite their apps from scratch.”
and then is soundly b*tch-slapped over six pages of posts.
Unfortunately, Mrs Rayz2016 was reading over my shoulder while I was replying to one of his posts and asked me if I was also planning on kicking puppies as a hobby, so I’m going to try to be a bit more tolerant when trying to address the canyon-wide gaps in his knowledge.
Well, the redemption site for the gift card works. So now I can get the MCC collection if I want. Certainly nothing else on the Microsoft Store that's good. Hell, I can't wait for that to be shuttered so that I get a ton of Office credit for all the Windows Phone apps I used to use.
Microsoft is so over valued. Wait until Apple Silicon takes 30% unit share of the mid and high range PC market
Um, I can’t agree with that. It’s pretty well known that Microsoft is slowly depreciating Windows as a main source of revenue and focus for its software. Nadella has changed the company to a cloud and applications company. It’s why we see most of their software for mobile on iOS, and has been for some time. It’s also why Microsoft upgraded the macOS version of Office. It’s also why Office will be one of the first, along with Photoshop, major apps on Apple’s new Apple Silicon platform. Microsoft sees the future as well as anyone these days, and they see that future as not being Windows. In fact, when considering all of the phones, tablets and other computers being sold every year, they see Windows as a minor player, becoming even more minor.
when nadella took over, I was thinking of investing in Microsoft for the first time. Things came up, and I forgot about it, then it was a bit too late.
I don’t like anything Microsoft makes but I absolutely agree Satya has really moved the company forward. Windows makes up only about 20% of revenue these days. Cloud and multi platform software makes up the vast majority. Can you imagine the state the company would be in if Ballmer was still in charge?
And this is a case study in what NOT to do in order to foster beans loyalty.
Apple? They research, develop, test, perfect, and launch. Then refine.
Ms? The think up something that seems “cool,” develop a bit, launch, beta test in users, and then abandon when it doesn’t gain traction.
Remember the Zune?
That’s MS. You buy into their ecosystem and the entire existence of thst setup is in doubt. Waste of time and money.
Apple?
Apple TV is still around and better than ever even though it was only a “hobby”
when you buy into an Apple system, you don’t end up regretting it shortly thereafter.
And that’s why Microsoft has been in decline and Apple has been surging.
"Ms? The think up something that seems “cool,”"
Zune and Cortana were something they thought up? They just copy pasted Apple's hard work.
Hey man. I totally agree.
Just like Samsung’s tablets and smartphones.
But MS tried to be “cool” with the name Vota s from their popular video game and with an artsy UI (for the time) with the Zune (really stupid name though. Even at the time).
But MS never really stands by anything other than Office, Windows, and Xbox.
So apparently Microsoft is trying to be cool by buying Tik Tok. I guess they wanna shed the "office company" image.

The strange thing is, he makes things up and states things that never happened. He thinks Apple is Samsung and Samsung is Apple.
Wonko, the first thing I thought of, and you beat me to the punch.
”It looks like you’re trying to use me like Siri, can I help?”
If you are going to imitate a voice assistant, at least imitate one that actually works! Siri is getting better but still has a long way to go to compete with Google Assistant.
The myth has been disproven for years. They all excel at different tasks.
Exactly ... Siri excels at uhhhhhhhh ... never mind.

Are you saying that MS copied Apple because they have their own assistant? If that's the case, we can say thay Apple copied and paste MS hard work in the Pencil (Surface Pen), Face ID (Windows Hello) and since you are talking about Zune, Apple Music (Zune Pass), right?
Wonko, the first thing I thought of, and you beat me to the punch.

I don’t think any of them excel at anything.
The few things Siri does that are useful... it’s just incidental. Every time I started trying to rely on it being useful for anything else, I learned to stop trying to use it. It just *isn’t* useful outside very narrow parameters.
I watch my girlfriend get similarly semi-useless responses from her Google/Droid-based phone’s assistant (hell, that one has so much latency that it’s awkward to use at all; did it “hear” me? No. Oh wait, there it goes... and that was useless info!).
I’ve never wanted to use Cortana on Windows. It’s cluttering presence on the platform put me off experimenting with it (what’s this thing being pushed at me? Oh. Cortana. No.). My Windows machine is a glorified game console at this point, for older games. My digital life is managed in the Apple ecosystem. Microsoft drove me away from their platform with endless computer tech voodoo over the decades. I’ve no reason to want to use Cortana, nor most of the rest of that OS. I use it grudgingly as is.
At some point I will have to buy a new PC because there will be no more Bootcamp with Apple Silicon, Apple doesn’t sell affordable full-size non-thermally-compromised machines, and I want to *some day finally* be able to play some of the games that came out over the last six years... but I’m still going to be GRUDGINGLY using a Windows PC.
Amazon... well I’m not even going there. Like Google, their business involves using me like cattle. Not interested in any of their products. Certainly not some dumb monophonic cheap speaker thing that invasively records everything and ships it off to Amazon.
To digress on Amazon products: My girlfriend’s Amazon paperwhite e-reader is crippled into being only just an e-reader (it can’t even offer a dictionary!). That’s all it does because she refuses to activate the advertising bullshit. She said the device cost less than the usual one because it’s supposed to be throwing ads up and harvesting data, but she read that she can avoid the ads by not activating it and still read ebooks. Good choice, but it shows how crippled the device is without an online account. The marketing shit is required to use any feature other than displaying an ebook (no dictionary built into the OS).
And this is a case study in what NOT to do in order to foster beans loyalty.

I don't believe Beats is being genuine, just having a bit of fun at our expense as he often does. I generally ignore him and you should too IMO
Exactly. Same on Android where Microsoft is also dumping Cortana since no one on that platform was looking for it either. Of course MS worded the announcement of fail framed in the best light.
“ productivity-type assistant”. Now, what does this remind me of?
Hahaha, just read the article and this was my first thought too. Back in school (my age is showing) this was the first thing I always turned off when doing clean installs of windows and office.

When did this happen?

This is gonna be cringe.

There is no more visceral example of the lack of popularity of Microsoft’s voice assistant than this.

And now they are looking to acquire TikTok. I think they still have a strong presence in the consumer market, and will have for the next few years.
